Its annoying when sophomores say they hate freshman. They were freshman the year before. amirite?

can you explain to me the whole freshman/sophomore/junior/senior thing cause I'm Australian and I read it in books all the time but have no idea what it sort of is I know that this probably makes me look like an idiot but yeah..

They are just names for the students in high school. Freshman are the first years, sophomores, are the second, junior is the third year and seniors are the fourth and final year.

so it's basically freshman are year 8, sophomores year 9, juniors year 10 and then seniors year 11 and 12?

Yeah, I was a sophomore last year and I disliked the freshman. But I'm fully aware that I was just as annoying and immature when the year before, and I'm sure people hated me. So not really, I think I grew up a lot during sophomore year, and the freshman are still just annoying.

it really gets annoying, the sophomores made it through 1 year, and they act like they are old enough to chastise the freshman, have they forgotten, they are still lower classman? i mean they still are, especially compared to both the juniors and seniors, they continue to complain about them on social networks, when they just left freshman year just 1 summer ago, and they are even cockier than before, sometimes i just wanna slap them, leave the freshman aloe, they maybe annoying, but atleast they aren't both annoying and cocky like the sophs. BTW im class of 2014 juniors!!!

It's not that confusing. It's just "nicknames" given to each class. Instead of calling them 11th graders or 12th graders, they go by juniors and seniors. It's the same for the 4 year of college. First year freshman, then sophomore, and so on.

It's not just the sophomores that shouldn't say they hate the freshmen. We were all a freshman at one point.

The freshmen aren't IN the high school here... Elementary K-6 Middle 7-9 and High 10-12. My state refuses to get with the times.

Yeah, I've never had a problem with freshmans. Then again, half of our freshmans are female and pregnant. Also, I never really got to be a freshman, because they separated our ninth graders to the old middle school, built a new middle school, and the high school now only goes from 10th to 12th. During that year, they said we were still "high schoolers," but being on different campuses and at the old middle school made it seem like another year of middle school with more students..):

Class of 2010!! Neway I didn't start disliking freshman since my junior year cause those were the freshman that began to give my school a bad rep ( they contributed to most of the fights and riots).

how strange...for australia its like primary school which is k-6 and then high school is 7-12 and only 11&12 are called seniors...theres no other nick names lol.

2012 most freshman are pretty annoying, just like the sixth graders were annoying to you when you were an 8th grader
