+129 Playing video-games is way better than watching tv shows and movies, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Either one taken to an extreme is bad.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

what would you consider extreme if i may ask.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

In short, when it affects your physical and mental health.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Well yeah if someone doesn't like something they are going to view it as boring and a waste of time different people like different things

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Watching tv or playing video games to me falls into the same realm of sitting and staring at something.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

fair enough. imo i think it can be 2 different things sometimes. but i respect your opinion.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Well videos games can definitely work your mind more. I only really play cod but I go on long breaks I can only handle it for so long till I get fatigued. My son has gotten really addicted to video games. I don't mind that he loves it so much but it's also not very physically active. A combination of physical activities and video games is key.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

absolutely

by Anonymous 2 years ago

By that logic, so does reading as well, yeah?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Really? So reading a book about biology is the same as watching family guy?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

There are shows that are just as educational as a biology book and there are books far more stupid than a family guy episode Don't act like books = smart and tv = dumb The medium is fine, it's what you use it for

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I don't think that…

by Anonymous 2 years ago

You're just sitting and staring at the words on the page, are you not? Same as how you're "sitting and staring at the tv" or "sitting and staring at the game".

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Sure you can argue that I never said they are a bad thing I just said they are similar. What are you trying to prove here? It really depends on what you are doing and what you can get out of it. Watching a tv show about history is no different than reading a book on it. I

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Prove? I'm not proving anything. I was asking a question. I was asking if you'd classify reading to *also* be in the same realm as "sitting and staring".

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I wasn't talking about reading though you interjected that. Reading can be similar to it just depends on what your reading.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

No, I didn't say you said it. I asked you. You acted as if games and shows are just you "staring", so I asked if reading is the same way.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I am an older person and I love video games. Big fortnite fan. But I also like tv. Neither is better or worse imo just different things to occupy my time. I really think the video game hate is starting to die down a bit and most people realise they're a part of life now. Especially if they have kids.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

i hear it a lot from my family, although my dad is a pretty big gamer himself lol. But i hear it a lot from my family saying "they are a waste of time" yet they talk about how they just got done watching a tv series

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Yeah, there's always going to be some people who think that way but most people my age that I know definitely play video games and are more accepting of their kids playing video games.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

most definitely

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Video games and watching tv are equally a waste of time. That being said…. It's practically all that I do

by Anonymous 2 years ago

i'm a historian and i like to watch historical dramas. while all of them have their inaccuracies, they're at least based in fact, and provide a jumping off point for researching the people and events and learning the real story. if i see a show about a place and time i know well, it's also fun to see which things they get right and which things they totally miss. the things they change also give some insight into what makes a good show. no lack of intellectual stimulation in my case.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Ngl i agree

by Anonymous 2 years ago

W

by Anonymous 2 years ago

i genuinely cant focus long enough on tv shows i have to have something else im doing even if it's just fidgeting with something. with video games i'm actively engaged and having a fun time. not to say i never lie around and watch things, but playing games is much more fun

by Anonymous 2 years ago

that's one of the main reasons why i prefer them over movies and tv shows too

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Tv shows and movies, video games and Novels are the same really they are a medium to acsess a whole different worlds and characters, and like many things, they all have their own weakness and strength. Relatively speaking, we are at a transition phase anyway, so resistence is to be expected.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

they kind of lost the magic for me. i definitely think my best video games experiences have been better than my best movie experiences, maybe not TV, but I haven't been able to enjoy a game like that in a long time

by Anonymous 2 years ago

i've heard that from some people i know as well, it's definitely understandable especially when life gets in the way.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Kinda popular opinion to me and I completely agree with that. Why watch stories when you can guess the end of it when you can make your own story?

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Its definitely only popular in online communities

by Anonymous 2 years ago

yes, you can literally make your own story in games now

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Completely agreed. Video games involve you the whole way while shows and movies have you sitting around to just watch something

by Anonymous 2 years ago

You grow out of video games and the story lines suck when you're not a kid. Even Fallout 1 pales in comparison to just watching A Boy and His Dog and Mad Max, neverminding that old video games like FO1 require the time to find a class that doesn't just die after 4 hours when you hit the wall.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I wouldn't use Fallout 1 as a pinnacle of storytelling tbh.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Lmao

by Anonymous 2 years ago

you'd be surprised how well the stories in some recent games are

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Video games were so much better back in the day. now it's just free up play micro transaction crap

by Anonymous 2 years ago

yeah i agree with the micro transitions, i can normally find a game to play with minimum or none that i enjoy but they definitely can get in the way of enjoying a game

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Somewhat agree. It depends on the show/movie or game.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

yes

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Agree. Though I don't mind movies, I can never sit through a show with several seasons. The thing is that TV shows are made for TV made to air once a week(some cases, an episode per day) and most of the time they're meant to become background noise, though taken as entertainment for us to watch nonetheless. I find watching shows entertaining when I wait for a weekly episode personally.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I use them as background noise too

by Anonymous 2 years ago

This opinion seems to be more Videogames can be equal to tv or movies and shouldnt be looked down on

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Neither are better. All have merrit.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

I agree that in games you are more active which is way better than watching a show or a movie it helps slowing down the aging process of the brain afaik because you use reflexes and have to think sometimes like when there's a riddle to solve. From experience my senses and ability to analyse a situation got better since I play games like war thunder or siege.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

seige is so much fun

by Anonymous 2 years ago

depends on what you're into

by Anonymous 2 years ago

well yes, that's an opinion. I like what i like, you like what you like. No judgement at all :)

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Absolutely. I haven't actively wanted to watch a TV show or a movie in 10 years, but I game every night.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

exactly, i just can't find enjoyment in tv. but if people do that's perfectly fine.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Ignoring the extremes you laid out (binging 8 seasons straight), my wife doesnt care for playing video games so it is far better for us to relax together watching TV at the end of the day rather than me playing videogames while she does something else.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

i get that, i make sure to watch movies and stuff with my girlfriend as well, we even play videogames together too

by Anonymous 2 years ago

As someone who plays video games and doesn't like watching TV or movies, I 100% agree with you. I would rather read a book than passively watch something. If I'm watching something, I'm doing something in tandem or thinking about more than one thing.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

When I was a child I was allowed tv after breakfast and dinner every day but I was only allowed to play video games for an hour on weekends.

by Anonymous 2 years ago

Weird ass comparison

by Anonymous 2 years ago

that's crazy who asked
