Twizzlers are nasty and weirdly taste like banana flavouring, amirite?
by Anonymous2 years ago
More for me! Of course I'm weird and like all the licorice variants.

Well in fairness Nibs are superior over the regular twizzlers and you can never go wrong with playing with the licorice ropes....

I dont think this opinion is unpopular
Im 47 and a native of the West Coast and I dont remember seeing a Twizzlers until I was well into adulthood. I dont think they were popular on the West Coast, I think they're an East Coast thing.
I grew up with Red Vines and I got my first Twizzler by mistake and gagged.

Reasonable reaction

I have not consumed them on purpose - but to my recollection the flavor was more heavily sugared candle wax than artificial banana
by Anonymous2 years ago
Definitely not an uncommon reaction for someone from outside the US or Canada. I've heard many, many Europeans say the exact same thing. The cherry flavour is much better than the strawberry one I'm assuming you had since you said it tastes like banana but they also have actual liquorice flavoured though but they're a bit harder to find

I am American and have never understood Twizzlers. I think it is maybe an east coast/west coast thing? To me, they taste like some kind of polymer filler with sugar added. I *wish* they tasted like artificial banana.
Red vines today, red vines tomorrow, red vines forever. ✊

There is actually a strong medical correlation with people who taste bananas when eating a product that contains Red Dye 40.
It is almost always linked to GI issues but is tested to see if you are missing a particular gene (AGH-37) though that is usually not done in typical doctor's office visits.
What is interesting is in a recently published study in the NEJM, that of the participants that identified the different taste in the food given, they had a 89% likelihood of developing ligma.

Ngl, you had me in the first half 🤣🍫

Agreed, but there tends to be no winner in a contest between outside objectivity and sentimental favourites.

I have always enjoyed black liquorice and it's become harder to find. Dutch stores carry some but it is a little pricey. Loblaws/Independent have carried Panda from Finland, but I'm not sure if they still do. You can also sometimes find Australian-style at Dollarama (!!)

Thanks sm, I'm loving these pro-tips!

I saw a meme the other day that said "Twizzlers taste like they were about to be a toy."

RED VINES FOR LIFE

Best licorice in existence. I'll die on this hill.

Red Vines is the superior licorice candy.

Twizzlers> red vine

I hate twizzlers, but I don't think they taste like banana flavoring. No way in hell does that thing taste like the best laffy taffy.
by Anonymous2 years ago
Same, I hate twizzlers and don't think they taste like banana. Gotta disagree tho, the best Laffy taffy is strawberry ✊️
No candy should be banana flavored! Haven't tried one yet that even tastes close to the same as real bananas to me.
by Anonymous2 years ago
It isn't supposed to taste like a real banana. The extract they use for banana flavoring was made after a now extinct bana strain. So banana flavor tastes like bananas that existed in the past, not the ones we know now. And I love that flavor.

And they're pumped full of palm oil

Everyone buys Red Vines / Ropes. No one buys Twizzlers.

I agree, I tried a Twizzler for the first time a few weeks ago and it was disgusting. It was dry, tasted artificial, and really bad. I don't get how people like them
by Anonymous2 years ago
We dont

At no point have I ever heard someone say they wanted twizzlers when I was at the store.
