+135 People finding animal cruelty hard to process and get triggered by it, but not by human cruelty, need to be checked up. amirite?

It's because of innocence, people struggle to justify being violent to animals because they don't understand or have a concept of morality, so it's almost always seen as undeserving, whereas with humans we can project humanity onto them, something we don't assign innocence to, so it's easier to accept

I get what u r saying, but children are innocent too. I have seen a lot of youtubers that do true crime and they were legit talking about a case about a child, but when the animal part came they were like "and people I have to give a huuuuge TW, we are going to talk about animal cruelty", and I was likeā€¦???

Yeah and that usually does get an emotional reaction, at least in my experience, tho most people assume the thing they're watching probably isn't going to merk kids as it's just not as common as animal deaths due to a more unified empathetic approach to children

I think its pretty rare when people care about animals and not children. When the gore sites used to be more popular almost all of them had rules against showing children and animals because nobody liked seeing it. There's a lot more too it as well like the fact that humans are overpopulating while animals go extinct. I can't stand seeing a tiger get shot because some idiot jumped into it's cage knowing there's almost none left in the wild.

I think the difference is that people can and should be able to take care of themselves. All cruelty is wrong but people run outta excuses whereas poor sweet animals are literally imprisoned and have no choice

I'm sorry but there are hundreds of cases out there when people who have been tortured to death couldn't take care of themselves, couldn't defend themselves etc.

It's because of the innocence. The more innocent the being, the more horrendous it is take cruelty out on that being. Human or animal. I myself have found myself eating less and less meat as I get older. Each bite just reminds me its an animals dead flesh.

I understand that part, and also I have dogs that I love to death and even if someone raises their voice at them I get furious, because in my eyes they are the most incredible innocent beings, but at the same time people that have their lives ahead of them, that have families and friends, that know and understand whats going on and whats going to happen to them, the amount of fear they have at those moments and terror they go through, makes it worse for me. Also children are innocent too, they are so precious and vulnerable and for me it makes it harder than animals.

May also depend on which specific animal *a pigeon takes a dump on a roof* "well let's shoot that winged rat already!" *a dog kills a child while playing in the park* "oh must have provoked the dog, or the dog sensed something creepy and evil about the kid, anyway it's the kid's or it's parents' fault" Anyway these are the double standards I observe in society. If bird poo motivates us to such violence and hostility, then these regularly occuring (unnecessary, preventable) situations of kids being attacked should cause massive riots. Instead, it's the norm to blame the victim and move on with BAU....

Definitely there is double standards with animals as well.

Humans are assholes and animals aren't. Eradicate my family if you want, just leave me my dog and kitty.

How about non-human animal on animal cruelty, so much worse and way more common

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Animal on animal cruelty is something natural that comes to animals. As much as we don't like it, the animal world does not have the moral codes we have. Animals kill for survival and food. It's in their nature and we as humans have no say in that

People have dogs as pets and juxtapose their own situation on the animals they see in fiction. If they don't have kids, wives, etc. this same juxtaposition doesn't happen.

They're are laws to protect humans, whereas animals can suffer legally, and the culprits are human and can abuse with impunity. Laws to protect animals are weak. They are they most vulnerable.

Are we talking about real life or movies???

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The thing about getting "triggered" by media is that it's not really about how bad the fictional event you're watching would be if it really happened. It's more about whether or not the fiction hits too close to your own real life issues. Past trauma is a common cause of such issues. Lots of people have trauma from their childhood dog dying, and comparatively few people have trauma related to saw traps or axe murderers.
