+19 Being a bad "Test Taker" is an incredibly stupid excuse for not doing good on school/ professional exams, amirite?

Typically being bad at tests means someone bad at high stress situation not that they can't apply the concepts or that they don't know the material

Fwiw I find that being able to work under pressure is typically important in jobs/things people take tests in order to do, and therefore a reasonable to be a factor in testing. There's exceptions I guess. Like sure if you suck at working under pressure and thinking on your feet, you might still be a great back office lawyer that just does research at their own pace. But regardless of how smart and knowledgeable you are I'm going to be really wary of hiring you to represent me in court if you can't work under pressure, and most lawyers need employees who can work well under pressure even if just doing research. It doesn't help the client if you can think of great objections you should have made after the opportunity to object is gone. Humble advice to the bad test takers out there who want a career competitive to enter: find other ways to make it clear that you do learn well and can provide value. To continue my example, if you're trying to be a lawyer, you need to ace those writing classes and probably write impressive journal articles and develop relationships with professors/lawyers who can attest to the value you can provide despite your limitations.

Watch out for the hordes of "memorization is not a measure of intelligence". Like they would be accepting of extensively-documented poor memory recall from their surgeons, their lawyers representing them at trial, the engineers that designed the bridges, trains, airplanes, & cars they use…the list goes on and on…

It mostly means they suck at studying lol.

This is just the wrong understanding of what being a bad test taker is. Test anxiety is a very real thing for people and can make it difficult to recall the specific information being asked. These same people do just fine in their field. It's a very academic test specific kind of anxiety.

I was always terrible at test. I finally figured out it was because I hadn't studied. Once I started learning the materiel test taking I became much better test taker.

There are some very intelligent people who are just bad test takers. It is a real phenomenon. Usually performance anxiety is a major cause.

I was an amazing test taker in school. Straight A's. I, however, suck ass at applying what I learned to the actual career field.

You clearly have no idea what being a bad test taker means. I happen to be fortune, and do very well with tests. This isn't true for everyone, though. I've known people who know the material as well, or better then me and not score as well. Testing works well for certain types of people, but not all. Tests are not a good indicator of how well some people know the material or can apply it.

It's ironic that in order to believe that your ACT or SAT score is a measure of intelligence you'd have to stupider than someone who failed it in the first place.
