First off, it is exceptionally rare for anyone younger than ~16 to be in a university. With that said, I think the average genius student fits into university better than high school. The students are older, more mature, more academically inclined, and far less likely to ostracize or bully a wonderkid. This is especially true of the programs these students gravitate to, and they're likely to find a group of friends who play videogames on a Saturday night instead of those who go to keggers.

Can agree, progressing past steps can be traumatizing. I mean, I used to study with fellow smart kids, and quickly fell of, but all of us quickly became exhausted.
