A common theme among people who survived suicide attempts is that they had immediate regret when they took that action. It might feel like a solution but the human in you wants to be alive.

Good point, but, I help out my elderly father and I plan to do it after he passes, especially since my brother died last year. My dad is in his 70's, in poor health, has smoked two packs a day for over 50 years, only drinks Mountain Dew, coffee, and whiskey, fast food, etc. I get along with him great, even though I do try to have a healthy life style and encourage him to, he doesn't. He and my brother were the only two people I enjoyed being around or ever felt connected to. So, I figure, I'll definitely off myself after my dad dies. I'll probably give it 6 months to a year or so after before I do it myself. It would just be nice if I didn't have to do it myself and I could have it done by a Dr or something, but I can't, so I'll do it the best I can when the time comes. 🤷

No, that's not it. Most suicide methods don't work first time. You end up ill, disabled or traumatising others. Trust. Me. If there was a sure fire way to have killed myself by now, I would have done it.

As a society, we have a duty to protect people from themselves, especially vunerable people. You aren't even allpwed to drive withoit a seatbelt. Why would you be allowed to pay someone to kill you?

You seem to be framing it as "when my dad goes I'll have nobody anyway so I might as well go." I look at things a little differently - if there is nothing left I can do to make things better in the world around me, or help others, then I'd consider it. But until then I would do my best to be helpful. It's not all about me.
