This is not really an unpopular opinion, the first date is always either in a social context (like a party) or a short date in a public setting like grabbing a coffee and walking a public park, this is not just simply safer it's also creating the right distance in the beginning so you can back out if the other person is crazy but harmless, at least where I live. Everything else is unnecessarily romanticized and from a time where people got engaged after the third date.
