+52 The world is overpopulated, amirite?

by Anonymous 3 months ago

And your solution is what? People in poorer countries typically need to have more children for labor and to ensure some survive to adulthood. Or just good old lack of access to birth control. Many of them dream of moving to a more developed country for a better life. Short of becoming a global dictator, there's no way to implement the changes you want to see.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Err, China đŸ‡¨đŸ‡³ implemented child control. Could be decided globally, like the ‘paris agreement' for population growth.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

And as a result their breeding population plummeted and they have to offer all sorts of incentives to get people to have more kids again. So the cycle repeats.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I bet you don't get the point there is no point in offering incentives because there is already enough people on earth and actually too many so why the hell offer incentives child birth should be discouraged

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Thanks to mass migration several first world countries are more concerned with preserving their cultures through native births, not just replenishing numbers through immigration. It's not like there's a global number we aim for and then cut off all breeding. Besides, getting married and having kids is the dream for many people. Population controls like you seem to want would require tyranny to push through. It's just not feasible, realistically.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Okay, so you are actually putting procreation as a higher priority than survival

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I'm pointing out how unrealistic your methods would have to be. Even China's one child policy backfired. There's no way you're going to be successful walking up to a bunch of people in third world rural villages and tell them they're not going to be allowed to have kids. Sure, losing about half the world's population wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. But there's no way to achieve that without tyranny. Humanity will just have to muddle through as best we can.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

but when the population plummets, you're not in favor of immigration either so how are you expecting the country to exactly get more ppl? It's a well studied phenomenon that the problem often isn't scarcity of resources but more the transportation chains. A lot of resources get deliberately wasted for various reasons.

It's negative but contains immense insights & wisdom.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Absolutely. No policies in place there to limit population and that billion+ all dream of western lifestyle. It is an absolutely insane prospect, an insane objective. And noone talking about it.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

It is. You will notice how overpopulated India is once you go there. It's terrible the conditions they live in but at the same time, the government can't up with the growing population. They need to have incentive where if people choose not to have kids, they get free land or some monetary compensation. Many just have kids out of boredom. I'm talking 8-10 children and they're extremely poor.

Let's start with politicians

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Better get you ass to Mars and lay stake to the prime real estate. Nature will take care of this if it becomes a real concern. Like always, the animals that can survive will and those that can't won't. Imagine what you will with that fun fact.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Those are very harsh words and your message is very cruel but you are so right unfortunately

by Anonymous 3 months ago

No kidding.

by jgulgowski 3 months ago

I am actually surprised how popular this opinion is

by Anonymous 3 months ago

covid didn't kill enough people

by Anonymous 3 months ago

That sounds horrible, but if you mean not enough people to put us back on sustainable path, you are right

by Anonymous 3 months ago

it was a joke!

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Still, you were actually onto something. Behind an ironic joke there can sometimes be deep truth.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Ok thanos

by Astrid35 3 months ago

OP: I did not tell about killing anyone. Also OP: proceeds to suggest killing everyone

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Not everyone. And I was more advocating that ‘nature should take care of itself'. It always does in the end anyhow. If 100 mill died from covid and we thereby consume much less resources, that would maybe save 100 mill lives in extreme weather disasters, over time.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

You are in luck. The world population is going down rapidly.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

No, it's not. The population is going up in all but 2 or 3 countries. And the overall population is likely to hit 11 or 12 billion before leveling off. What you have probably seen, but clearly misunderstood, is that the rate of population growth is reducing. I'll say that again, the rate of GROWTH is slowing.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Yes, but politicians want to stimulate the childbirth

by Anonymous 3 months ago

People can't afford to have kids, so the economy will get worse and less people will be able to afford to have kids. Sounds like a positive feedback loop, and Americas downfall is imminent. /s

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Idk what your point is

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Listen to yourself, capitalism has failed if it depends on eternal growth. That leaves us with communism then.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

We can support up to 20 billion. Lets get the high score.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Well, this is what demographs (the most stupid scholars on earth imho) have told politicians and that is why nothing has been done but still politicians express concerns about overconsumption but there is a glaring disconnect within the political class. They are not coherent. In fact they want more people but less consumption at the same time they want the economic growth. They are a grossly confused class of people.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Hot take... Malthusianism has been around for 200+ years, it's very popular with the far right.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

We aren't even close to over populated. Overconsumption isn't happening in many places, how much food wastage do we have in the west? restaurants throwing out food, supermarkets letting food just die and then throw out when unsold. What we have a problem is resource distribution. We hog all the resources in the rich areas.
