This is not what people get upset about. Inside a store or restaurant or really any building where you're not alone is reDICKulous

There are reasons to be on speaker in a store imho, "Hey babe idk what that thing you wanted looks like I'm gonna put you on face time and tell me if this is it" Normal thing every man I know has gonna thru you know?

Send a photo. Less data than FaceTiming. 100% you do this in worse scenarios than what you originally described. Get some earbuds!

Not that easy when there's multiple options that you have to take off the shelf to get in a picture. But to me it's one of those things that don't matter in the first place, it takes less then a minute to go thru the face time and as long as I'm making an effort to not get anyone else on the FaceTime why does that matter you know? I'm just trying to get my wife the salami she wants and I'm being as quiet and polite as possible by not being in anyone's way. So I don't get why this effects anyone

If you have a genuine need to, it's fine. Your hands are busy and you're trying to do something and talk to someone, that's OK. But honestly, it's just annoying. First, as the receiver of such a call. Why do I need to hear all your background noise that's competing with you for audio? Cars driving by, other people talking, roadworkds...whatever else is happening round about, just struggling at times to make out what you're saying. Then as someone nearby you, it's annoying to have to hear this. Most people tend to speak louder as the other person speaks up to compensate for the crappy call quality you've needlessly imposed. So now I've got 2 people speaking above everybody. So you've got someone nearby talking over everybody else in a conversation they could be having normally. Also, you're already holding the phone to your face, your cheek is right there, just put the phone to it. Yeah someone screaming at you in the street was too far, but you look like an idiot.

Have you seen the south park episode where Cartman talks on speaker phone and then freaks out on Kyle for listening in on his conversation? These people exist. It's peak annoyance and much worse than drunk idiots blasting their music on their crappy phone speakers in public.

by KaleFluffy2344 2 months ago

Eh, the people listening to music or playing videos on full blast on the bus with no headphones are just as bad.

As a general rule, you should be as unnoticeable as possible/safe in all public spaces.

Some people just have to learn the hard way about self awareness and how their actions affect those around them in public

I feel like No one can give an answer on how someone being on speaker affect others tho

In my experience, people that are on speakerphone are not at the same volume as people having a conversation in person. Generally, I think this behavior should be frowned upon, because if 1 or 2 people are doing it, it's not that big a deal once you start multiplying that and it's acceptable for everybody to do it, and you have a bunch of people doing this. This is going to be a lot of noise pollution and obnoxious. I personally a song that'll be on the phone. This on. Generally can tell if I'm on speaker and I will tell them to either take me off speaker or I'm hanging up. A lot of the times I start having problems hearing people because they're not fully engaging with the phone looking away. Also, in my opinion, bluetooth headsets are super cheap anymore.Go get some.
