GMO is not bad and that's a fact. Sadly it belongs here as it's commonly looked down on, especially in Europe

I've heard that papayas would be extinct if not for gmos

Your second sentence sounds like an argument AGAINST GMOs.

Why? In case of GMO you as a consumer don't know what exactly changed. But the one who make this change knows In case of selection neither of you know what exactly changed. Because selection is not about changing something specifically. You just pick the plant with better qualities you need to be better. But you don't have a whole "changelog".

And the selection can have even more of these unintended consequences because it's even less straightforward ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I don't recall the details, but I've heard about some potato became poisonous in a result of selection. Lenape potato, just found it. So I don't understand why more precise method should cause more caution than less precise.

Yeah, I'm not concerned with GMO foods at all. They seem totally fine.

Yup GMO is like using a scalpel versus a butcher knife.
