It sounds like you just don't like a lot of the more technical-leaning metal solos that are out there. Try some classic rock stuff for more expressive, melodic solos. Some of my personal favorite lead guitarists are Billy Gibbons, Mike Campbell, and Neil Young (he may be an acquired taste).

Bruv what….. "guitar solos seem performative"…. Yeah that's the point. "Guitarists seem to think playing high notes fast is indicative of musical prowess" if you've ever touched a guitar you'd know playing extremely quick requires musical prowess……

I've been thinking about this lately. I agree. What got me thinking about it was listening to Tool, and thinking, they don't have guitar solos, and I love their music.
