+49 I wish apartment complexes were allowed to say no to kids, amirite?

They would have to kick you out if you got pregnant. That sounds like a legal nightmare for them

As a fellow childless adult, I get OP's frustration. But forget about the legality—this just sounds like a moral nightmare in general.

9 months is plenty of time to gtfo. /s

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Ok but I feel like if the old ppl get an age designated living situation why can't another age group?! Legally this isn't feasible but I don't think OP is evil for wanting it. And I say this as a parent.

That is called living in downtown in lots of places.

Tbf it's a dice roll. The loudest neighbors I've encountered were two different tenants in the same unit about a year apart. One was a senior who was clearly oblivious to how much noise they made. They other had a dog that would howl endlessly. I chalk it up to the reality of living in an apartment/condo.

You dont wanna hear kids but you wanna hear a bunch of young 18-20somethings partying every day and all night? At least kids have an early bed time. I dont wanna have to fight with my 22 yr old neighbor because they dont understand basic decency at 1am on a weekday. Or any day for that matter.

I'd rather hear teens that occasionally party over kids that are loud every single day

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I'd let this insanity slide if you are willing to reopen public spaces where children and teens can live, exist, play, and enjoy themselves freely without fear of censure or attack for just existing. If you create an equal number of available living spaces solely for families, then sure. Fill yer boots.

So separate but equal? What could go wrong?

by Particular-Eye 2 months ago

Children are human beings and thus allowed to exist places.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

A lot better and cheaper for you to just either tune them out or get some noice canceling headphones.

I think there are. SF in general is a somewhat childless city so there has to be small communities like that elsewhere in the world

I wish apartment complexes were required to insulate interior walls and use soundproofing material.

Where I live, it was a thing for a really long time, there were a lot of adult only buildings but they made it illegal. However a lot of adult only buildings do still exist. I live in one of those buildings and it's amazing. Don't have to hear someone's kid screaming and carrying on, don't have to listen to them running around and jumping up and down in the apartment above me, don't have to worry about messes in the hallways, it's peaceful. And I honestly think that adult only places should exist for those of us who don't want to live around kids because we find them annoying. Some of us just want peace and quiet.

I bet your neighbors hated you as a kid too. Maybe realize we are all a community and we all need each other

I have a kid, but i totally feel you. My son has always been very well-behaved, and I have moments when I wish that when he gets older and moves out, there is a place I could move that is kidless 😆. I used to live in an apartment complex, and because I had a kid, the lady put me in an apartment beside another family with kids. I worked 3rd shift, and these damn kids would bang on the wall ALL DAY LONG. I never got to sleep. I mentioned it to her and she was like "they're just kids hehe" but one night I was watching TV at 10pm (it wasn't even loud) and she messaged me asking me if I could turn my TV down because the family next to mes kids could hear it and couldn't sleep 🤬. I was livid.

I've found it to be way more annoying having 20 somethings living around me as they're usually rowdy, drunk, having large groups of people over, having sex super loud You can hear them walking so loud if they live above you.

by mcassin 2 months ago

People put up with you, now it's your turn. Kids are just a part of life you need to deal with.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Hating children isn't a personality trait

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Yeah, let's keep the damn kids away. Stupid little people trying to learn how to people!

by ProfessionalOwl4928 2 months ago

I don't hear as much from the neighbors with kids as I do from those who are early 20s without kids. Those mfers are loud for no damn reason.

by Soggy_Range 2 months ago

...They're called university dorms. Don't gotta be a uni student where I'm at to rent them, but your lease is shorter than a typical apartment.

by Mundane-Mix 2 months ago

Problem is if any apartment complexes were allowed to say no to kids they all would. It's a nice idea but bound to spiral out of control.

by Opening-Load-6311 2 months ago

What you want can be found in complexes by college campuses

by Anonymous 2 months ago

That would be insanely illegal my dude

by ContentAd 2 months ago

You are not alone. I'm glad I have a house, and my neighbors seem to have more pets than kids.

by Jedidiah38 2 months ago

As someone who is currently living above a family from a certain culture where it's common to stay up until 1-2AM with their very young children, I feel this opinion deep in my soul.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

People put up with you then you can put up with kids.

by Klockoemilia 2 months ago

I'm pretty sure you were a kid once. Too bad nobody forced you to be homeless

by Anonymous 2 months ago

So anyone that gets pregnant or gets married and decides to have children gets kicked out? I'm actually okay with that. I can tolerate underaged kids as long as they are living with their family because they have bedtime. Easy coparating and hand me downs. Push to get it started and let me know how it goes. The kids get kicked out of family apartment complexes when they are legally adults? Right? Right?
