+35 menstrual products are 100% luxuries, amirite?

by myrnaharris 11 months ago

Sanitation is a necessity, not a luxury. Unless you want to go back to the black plague.

u can absolutely be sanitary without pads etc. read the text part, ppl are already selling "reusable pads" and no one has an issue with that, but using any other type of cloth is suddenly unsanitary as if that's not what ppl have been doing since the start of humanity

by myrnaharris 11 months ago

you really knocked your head as a child, huh? Were you born out of a helicopter

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Please tell me what other cloths are out there that work just like reusable pads? Reusable pads and underwear are essentially designed to prevent leaking and give the wearer ease of comfort.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Reusable pads are only equally sanitary if you have reliable access to a washing machine.

by Cordeliabode 11 months ago

I literally use the products lol, but there's no difference between reusable products and any other fabric ever. they're infinitely more convenient and it's good that they're an option, but u won't die without them.

by myrnaharris 11 months ago

there's no equally sanitary alternative to that but there's alternatives to pads that are almost as convenient, just as sanitary and better for the environment

by myrnaharris 11 months ago

A cloth can be used to clean your ass and be washed and reused so toilet paper most definitely can be compared to sanitary pads etc. in the context of your argument. We wouldn't die without toilet paper either.

Bidet, idiot

by koelpindemarcus 11 months ago

huh, good point.

by myrnaharris 11 months ago

Washing yourself each time is even more sanitary, unless you also believe soap is a luxury and not a necessity.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

all I'm advocating for is DIY lmfao it's not that serious

by myrnaharris 11 months ago

Washing yourself is totally DIY, or if you really want to wipe yourself in a DIY way you could use rags and just wash those, as you are proposing is a less luxurious more DIY method women should use for bodily fluids. You could also do adult reusable washable diapers if it isn't convenient to carry around dirty soiled rags you wiped yourself with. You know, because convenience of disposable products to handle bodily fluids is a luxury.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

Those same points still apply to toilet paper. You could also use leaves, just be careful which ones you choose.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

I'm not going to go into fine detail but I've seen those reusable pads and when I had periods I would have blasted through one of those in an hour.

by ToughSnow 11 months ago

that's not good lol, I'm talking specifically about the average person being taken advantage of by billionaires. if its a medical thing then obviously by all means it's necessary.

by myrnaharris 11 months ago

You didn't mention that at all. You made a blanket statement, as far as I can see.

by ToughSnow 11 months ago

and u made a good point that I agree with and I realised I should have been more specific

by myrnaharris 11 months ago

period pants are definitely an option since u need to buy them WAY less frequently, so it'll be harder for companies to take advantage and mark them up to the same extent. I think we're in agreement.

by myrnaharris 11 months ago

Tell me you're a man without telling me you're a man.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

good guess but nope. literally on my period rn 😭 that's what got me thinking about it. they're handy but u won't die without them and there's alternatives that are less convenient but way cheaper and better for the environment

by myrnaharris 11 months ago

Agree with you on the environmental issues, I don't see why anyone needs a plastic applicator. I get that not everyone can use menstrual cups, but come on. But in general they're a necessity, not a luxury item. I don't choose to have a period so I need them

by edgarabshire 11 months ago

So you want women to walk around with bloody crotches and stained clothes?

by Anonymous 11 months ago

I agree, I think sanitation pads should be cheap and affordable for all women

by Anonymous 11 months ago

I sure hope you feel the same way when you start to lose control of your bowels as you age!

by Classic_Spot8604 11 months ago

just bc u want or need SOMETHING doesn't mean u need the companies and their products. that's why they're able to mark the cost up so badly.

by myrnaharris 11 months ago

it should be priced reasonably, free condoms is nothing but an encouragement to use them (which is a good thing). no one needs convincing to use pads. what do u think ppl were doing up until someone decided they wanted to profit off it?

by myrnaharris 11 months ago

As a man, I hate to say this. But this is definitely a man's opinion!

by Anonymous 11 months ago

I completely agree, they are definitely a luxury and need to be acknowledged as such. I would say they're probably as much of a necessity as toilet paper; It would be really difficult to adjust without it if you are accustomed to it, but there are still so many hygenic ways to do without these things. It's a complete privilege to have access to such products, but they incomparable to needs and rights such as food or water.

by Anonymous 11 months ago

fr lol, I literally use those products bc I have a preference for tampons over pads. I just don't NEED them. im literally on my period rn, i promise if my house went on fire tonight buying tampons would be the least of my worries 😭😭
