Agreed. I was born in 81, and the economic downturns and recession just taught me frugality. I've busted my ass and am now comfortably middle class. It's getting better every year.

Same. My partner and I travel at least twice a year, and that's our big luxury. Otherwise, it's eating at home, and spending as little as possible. We've paid off almost 8k in debt this year, and will be debt free by next summer. I still max out my 403b contributions and put a little in savings each month. People don't realize how much money they throw away on things that make them happy for a few hours or days.

Your experience MUST speak for everyone else's…

Um, nope. That's why I asked all of you if you have a similar one. Looks like a lot do.

Life getting easier for one individual person does not mean things are easier for most. It isn't opinion, it's fact that prices are going up and wages are certainly not going up as much. Life is objectively getting harder for most working class people.

It's actually a fact that wages are going up faster than inflation and have been for some time now.

Then why are Japan and Korea's birth rate sitting below 7 per 1k this year?
by Anonymous2 months ago
Birth rate is usually much lower in developed countries than developing ones.

These are the ones with the lowest on this planet out of them and I mentioned these for a reason.

Personally my life did get better with each passing year. But if you compare me to someone who is in the same working field who started 15 years earlier than me, their lives are 4 times better than mine. I was able to save and buy a house by the age of 40. I own two vehicles. One kid and a wife who works part time. co worker who was 40 in the year 2010 had two properties, a boat, 3 cars, and 3 children with a SAH wife. Currently this co worker retiring this or next year at 55, with 4 properties, 3 million for retirement, has a pension (my company quit offering pensions in 2016). My projected retirement is 67 with the same assets I currently own and maybe save 1.5 million at retirement.
