+48 LinkedIn is useless, amirite?

by braunmurphy 2 months ago

It used to be a nice place to keep track of your professional network. Now it's some weridy ass self help/job board/training site/online promotional system that pisses you off just being on it.

Definitely made awesome career moves based solely off of having linkedin to connect me with the opportunity. My guess is you are not utilizing it properly

Learn the keywords that recruiters in your field are looking for and load your profile with those terms.

Agree. It's not a social media platform - you have to use it correctly. I've found jobs and private equity sales nicely through LI

Big circle jerk of nothingness

There's superficial stuff like what you said, but the platform is incredibly powerful if used correctly. It's a quality over quantity thing.

While it is an obnoxious job search board, with dozens of phoney notifications every day, it has been useful to me when hiring or looking to be hired.

If you "connect" with everyone you essentially connect with nobody. Yes I know I'm up there with Plato

by Anonymous 2 months ago

It's definitely very useful but it's also the bane of my existence. It's easily the most obnoxious social media platform, and I can't wait until the day that I have no need to keep using it

"Way to go, me"

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Pretty much sums it up

by braunmurphy 2 months ago

The site is essentially a public resume, and your resume is supposed to promote yourself. So yeah, "way to go me" is literally the point of it.

I 4x my salary over the last 3 years from the connections I made on LinkedIn. But you do you, OP.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I get your point its good for career opportunities. But it has become so superficial and and every gloryfying eachother just to look good.

by braunmurphy 2 months ago

Ok well have fun not looking good I guess

What do you think "corporate" is all about? Of course it's superficial and full of politics. But that's the name of the game. Moving up and getting promotions is more about being liked than getting results.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Idk about that but the people on linked in are very accomplished. You'll be celebrating getting a certificate while someone cured a rare genetic disorder in baby lions all while being an organizer for Coachella. Like damn.

I've never once found it useful. More annoyed they bought out Lynda.com to give us crappy LinkedIn Learning

by Sengerjayce 2 months ago

Sure comes in handy when trying to remember what month you started that job 3 years ago.

This isn't an unpopular opinion.

As an employee I have found my current job through LinkedIn As an employer, we have made hires through LinkedIn

by Admirable_Buyer4285 2 months ago

I think you meant trivial things.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I think saying linkedin is useless is a popular opinion. lol

by Anonymous 2 months ago

While I hate how it's basically my professional Facebook. It did helped me land my last 2 jobs and double my salary in the last 8 Years.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

LinkedIn is just a networking site specifically for job-related profiles. Calling it useless is like saying knowing people in the business is useless.
