Proving why OP needs to stay in school.

by Connect-Worker 8 months ago

This is definitely an unpopular opinion i'll give you that

by Mccluredonny 8 months ago

There is a difference between unpopular opinions and objectively wrong ones.

Why don't we just get rid of work and use hugs as currency since everyone is so intrinsically motivated

by Maleficent_Employ647 8 months ago

Awesome! I can't to drive on bridges designed by YouTube scholars. Or medical anything Or… Or…. You know what, I'm not going to list off anything else. You get the point. Well, maybe you do. You learned from YouTube…

Uh huh... what do you plan to do with the 5yr old when mom and dad have to work ?

by Present_Paramedic 8 months ago

social skills are learned from watching videos now?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

op's gotta be an avid Andrew Tate "bro" to have this kind of braindead opinion, jfc. "just watch YouTube to learn"? 😬

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Better yet - be the change you want to see in the world. Keep going to school, but also spend time outside of school learning more. Become incredibly successful and share your technique with future generations.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

There is something to be said about getting feedback from a teacher. I have learned physical skills but not at good quality. Because a teacher helps you learn the nuance of the craft. And guide you away from mistakes

by Anonymous 8 months ago

If you haven't learned to read or write/spell, how tf you gonna log in and watch YouTube videos? You signing the terms of service being illiterate? Someone should have stayed in school cuz they confused "unpopular opinion" with "incorrect opinion"

by AffectionateTale1305 8 months ago

The 4th R is reserved for you OP. You know exactly what it is.

There is so much more to learning than just reading a book or watching a video. Teaching in a way that students actually learn is a big skill.

by Entire_Cattle_9824 8 months ago

You learn more speech and communication talking to your classmates than watching youtube videos and reading books. Also, there are good, educational sources of information, but there's also a lot of conspiracy theories and nonsense out there. School teaches the basics so students have a framework to go from when trying to assess if the information they find is factual or fictional.

Tell me, would you rather have a doctor who got their degree from a medical school or the school of hard knocks?

Did someone have a tough day at school?

There is a test… Go for it

Absolutely horrible opinion

by hadleyreichel 8 months ago

Ha, can't learn to socialize via YouTube

by hstreich 8 months ago

If you're smart enough you get to next grade level earlier. It happens to a few (albeit very few) kids every year in my kids school.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

There is more to schools than just the books. But that being said I don't think school is irrelevant, i think what's taught is what is irrelevant, to a degree.

Overpriced, overvalued education backed by predatory lending is obsolete.

What I will say about the importance of socializing at school is that growing up I could usually tell when someone was homeschooled by the way they acted. They were usually a little socially awkward and they didnt exactly follow social norms. They were usually really nice people, but to me it showed that an important aspect of school is developing certain social skills and the ability to fit into society. I am not saying that homeschool is a bad thing and in some cases it may be the best option for a certain family, but it definetly does have that drawback.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I see a person‘s lack of DESIRE to fit into society almost as a virtue in the adult world, but only if they were homeschooled by extremely unique, distinguished, intelligent people. Those people who don't fit the norm because they were neglected, or raised by troglodytes tend to be the only ones benefiting from school's socializing byproduct.

So that they know that two of the three words in "the three R's" don't actually start with R?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I was hoping you would look at what my finger is pointing at instead of looking at my finger.

by CableNo5725 8 months ago

The AI seems to be able to field questions from 3rd graders.

by CableNo5725 8 months ago

There are too many kids out there not getting any life skills training at home or anywhere else because they have ineffectual or absent parents. Between that and lack of socialization, school is the better alternative.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

This sounds like a separate function that is merely a byproduct of formal education. Maybe a socialization space needs to exist unrelated to education. Seems like defective kids can interfere with others' education.

by CableNo5725 8 months ago

Just what we need: MORE people who can't read.

by Only_Actuator 8 months ago

Completely disagree. A huge majority of what you learn in school isn't even academic. What you learn from school that you don't get from a book is social interaction, having a non-parental authority figure, punctuality, independence/self-relaince, athletics, and many, many more things. It's one of the main reasons homeschooled kids end up so screwed up.

by Cold_Geologist_2425 8 months ago

This is a very American opinion: ignorant and juvenile

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I agree. if you want to live in mud huts, without running water, electricity, or sewage pipes. And this is just for infrastructure. This is just so we don't all die of cholera, and have the basics. Now, you are reading this on a high tech electronic device. Throw that out too

Alright kid, time to get off the iPad

by Eldastracke 8 months ago

If you think that public schools are replaceable by the internet then you missed the big picture. Schools are here to socialize kids and help turn them into productive adults. Easing kids into deadlines, group projects, organization and showing up on time are the real skills picked up from k-12.

by feestblaze 8 months ago

Absolutely agree. Maybe not abolish all school but the current system is seriously antiquated.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I don't disagree per se, but not for the reasons you've outlined. School for me has been a way to indoctrinate kids into accepting a 9-5 work life as normal, and it gives parents somewhere to put their kids while they're working until the kids become old enough to replace them in the slave force. And then, the curriculum offers very little in terms of practicality; we should be learning about our rights as employees', how taxes work, first aid, basic coding skills etc. So in those ways, in my opinion, school is unnecessary.

Entrepreneurship! Teach liberating pedagogy instead of more proletariat fodder!

by CableNo5725 8 months ago

You're right, but the companies who lobby politicians don't want more competition, so that would never happen.
