At the end of my days I'm not gonna say "I'm glad I was useful to society"

Also, this implies all jobs are inherently useful to society. My dad's friend works for an insurance company and his job is basically deny as many claims as possible through any loophole possible.

I think you don‘t realize productivity can have different meanings.

There is a large number of people who could make the world a better place simply by quitting their jobs.

Apparently you are a skeptic and have read the book "Sapiens" by Yuval Noah. I do not agree. By thinking this way, you ignore current problems, whether family-related or broader, such as climate change, mental health problems among the population and current suffering. "I will not do anything, because the world has no meaning and everyone will die" is at the very least depressing and selfish. If by chance your mother or wife develops some disease, the doctor may think that in billions of years her life will be forgotten. So does it not matter if she dies or lives?

This is an interesting opinion, one that I can understand. My work is a big part of my life and ultimately brings me a lot of challenge and joy. It gives my life texture and keeps me going. I'm always striving for the next accomplishment. But I don't judge people who don't have that relationship to work and sometimes really envy them!
