If you embarrass yourself in public people will remember, amirite?

Yes! People remember!! The trick is realizing the following: Who cares.

But does it matter if you remember and not know the person? I remember a guy jumping over a counter at the mall when he was working at Dairy Queen and slipped. What am I doing with that information from 15 years ago?

I agree, I still remember Carla peeing her pants in first grade decades ago

its different from person to person. you and your friends remembering stuff that strangers do does not mean everyone in the world also does. when i was in my 20s i was very hyperfocused and could remember alot of things that happened in my day to day. when u get to 30+ youll still have the ability to recall things but you will largely forget most things. there will simply be too many things on your mind. wife, kids, job etc.

Yes but only people who don't know you very well

What they don't remember is the person's name or who they were. They couldn't pick the person out of a lineup. That means it becomes just a random story immediately. The real issue is that people just need to be able to laugh at themselves when something like that happens.

Yeah people will remember something funny they saw someone they know or a stranger do. Saying they "won't remember" is just an easier way of saying "it doesn't matter". Because there's normally no real reason to worry about being embarrassed. I don't really get embarrassed by much, but when I do, I mainly just find it funny later.

The best response to an embarrassing situation is this: say " well that's the second most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to me". The response is always, " what's the first?" You say, "I can't tell you, it's too embarrassing " this totally gets the attention off the situation. You can either make something up, or keep them trying to get it out of you. Either way, it takes the attention off the situation at hand. Works every time.

Not sure about other people, but I will definitely remember every one of my many public humiliations.

I notice when people embarrass themselves, but I usually feel empathy and compassion for them and I think most good people feel this way. People who hold embarrassing moments against people, are doing so to soothe their own self loathing. Something embarrassing happened to me at work recently and I reminded myself that the good people at work probably felt bad for me and the assholes were probably laughing and making fun of me. I don't take criticism from people I don't take advice from (assholes). Settled.
