+28 One of the most prevailing arguments for normalizing weed is that if alcohol is normal then weed should be normal. But... amirite?

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Weed makes me more chill. Alcohol makes me more assertive and explosive. In the end. Not good to abuse any drug.

The underlying issue and criticism that people have about "getting high" is no different than drinking alcohol "socially" or "enhancing the experience". You can literally have the same convo or dinner with water, coca cola, juice, etc How is drinking alcohol any different?

So what?

by Fresh-Calendar 2 months ago

Many people enjoy one or two little puffs at night? Not really much different. Also, when you get "high", there is no hangover the next day.

That's fair if you compare to alcohol, but there's an even better comparison in smoking and tobacco products. If smoking is legal then weed should also be legal.

Also, i occasionally enjoy one nice joint on a quiet night at home. Bit drowsy, bit funny, bit dumb. Its not like all weed smokers are all in all day.

The argument against that is that tobacco products do not impair your decision making or motor skills, unlike weed. That makes weed more potentially harmful than smoking.

by amir84 2 months ago

Somewhat true, though it does impede driving when you smoke while driving which I sometimes see people do. And while in that one aspect it may not be as harmful, it is overall far more harmful due to the negative health effects.

Alcohol(ism) shouldn't be normalized either.

Weed makes me pass out. I'm sure I'm not the only one

"bad thing is legal so legalize more bad things" - stoner logic

by Academic_Band_1636 2 months ago

The problem is the act of banning something is itself a bad thing. There are a lot of people whose lives have been ruined because they possessed marijuana and even if you think that's bad, no reasonable person believes the punishment fits the crime.

No one drinks beer for the taste lol.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I do. There. You're wrong.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

That's just wrong. Loads of people do. Maybe not the 60 cent cans from the supermarket, but there's a lot of good stuff out there.

$2.8b craft beer industry has entered the chat

by jean55 2 months ago

just because i enjoy a craft beer every once in a while and like to plan something special on valentine's day doesn't mean i don't enjoy the simple things in life or do nice things for my wife year round it's not one or the other. its silly to pretend otherwise

by jean55 2 months ago

absolutely, i can definitely respect that. i got a bit heated cause i was super cynical about all that stuff for a couple years and it really wore on me at some point i realized that my girlfriend at the time (wife now) was sort of blissfully ignorant about the capitalist agendas behind stuff like christmas, pinterest, fandoms, etc and could just enjoy things that i was thinking way too hard about imo the world would be a better place if there was more balance between the perspectives. we can recognize the harmful impact of brands and marketing while still being able to enjoy and appreciate products we like yk?

I don't think I will ever not be surprised at the speed at which the advertising industry successfully managed to market handbags to men.
