-22 For those that argue humans aren't meant to be monogamous. amirite?

by Anonymous 7 months ago

You realize that we have a society with our own rules, not by the rules of nature? What does "meant to be" even mean?

by Kiarakutch 7 months ago

Yeah people would just be savages if civilization them. What's natural isn't always the best.

by Anonymous 7 months ago

I think you are illustrating OP's point.

by Isabelstreich 7 months ago

Hope you stretched before that reach.

by ElkPsychological 7 months ago

OP is a grown man. That just makes it sad

by Kiarakutch 7 months ago

Humans are sentient. Meaning we can choose to be better than our base nature and natural instincts. Especially when those instincts are contrary to what is good for a civilization.

Basing your argument on a biological fact isn't a good idea. Just because something is biologically possible or even biologically incentivised, doesn't mean humans have to or should play along. A lot of our society today is aimed at curbing the worst issues that our own biology throws at us. How anyone can live in our current age and not see that is beyond me, so I'll just assume that you're 14 and leave it at that.

They're a full grown adult unfortunately

I'm not poly to be pregnant OP. I just love 2 people. I don't even want kids.

by Anonymous 7 months ago

People aren't "meant" to do or be anything.

by Forsaken_Salary1607 7 months ago

i don't think this is an unpopular opinion? i think you've just noticed two misogynistic talking points that are often held, in tandem, by the same groups of misogynists

by Mysterious_Duty 7 months ago

I dont think the poly crowd and the get off birth control crowd are the same

by Homenickclaude 7 months ago

i guess i just haven't heard any actually poly people say that humans aren't meant to be monogamous before. they're normally pretty respectful of other people's boundaries it's the "socialized sex" and "i should be able to cheat on my wife" crowd.

by Mysterious_Duty 7 months ago

Those aren't comparable in the way you've stated it. No one argues that humans shouldn't be allowed to live monogamously, only that it's not in human nature and it shouldn't be a requirement / social expectation. That's not the same as saying that no one should use birth control.

by NoCream 7 months ago

There is no "meant to" to form any connection between those two concepts. The only thing I can imagine would link those two together is if you presuppose the only point of a relationship is to generate kids. Which is an actual belief held by some people, but there's no basis for it, so in no way should such a regressive framing inform society.

by aliciaerdman 7 months ago

That's a bit of a non-sequitor, don't you think?

by Anonymous 7 months ago

You mind expanding on this?

by Anonymous 7 months ago

People might be more polygamous than you would think. Humans aren't sexually monogamous in the sense that many birds are. Geese form lifelong couples and virtually never mate with anyone except their partner.

by Anonymous 7 months ago

Makes sense, if human nature is not to be monogamous, human nature is also for women to be pregnant, as contraception would go against the "natural order". Fortunately, we, as a society can actually pick and choose, so following the so-called natural order by being non-monogamous doesn't mean we're not allowed to use contraception. Because there is no natural order, no absolute rule to follow.

by Neat-Fig-1326 7 months ago

My only counter to the monogamy being unnatural argument is that there is no law or precaution on earth that will prevent the rise in murder and assaults that result in socially non monogamous society. Men and women across the board will let their natural jealousy go outta control
