OP wants money to be dropped off to a "nearby store" LOL So what happens when I drop money? I have to go to every store within a close proximity to see which one the person handed it in at? OP should be mad at himself, not other people.

Maybe you didn't lose it in that place. Hopefully you will find it. Personally if I find money I would ask if someone lost it. But, that's me. I'm not so sure there is a right way and a wrong way. I lost my wallet pumping gas years ago. Within 10 minutes I realized I had lost it. I went back and looked. I went inside and asked. I was really bummed out that it was gone! But honest to goodness weeks went by and I received a call from a police man. He had found my wallet and oddly enough tracked me through a random business card in my wallet. Unfortunately things don't always work out like this. I was always curious as the reason he didn't turn it in, inside the gas station. It would have made my life easier but… I did eventually get it back. Leave your babe with the people that work where you lost it. You never know if someone comes back to return it!
