+34 Adults who are obsessed with Disney are very strange, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

This. Right. Here. Sports betting is a real problem and a disease. It turns grown men into blubbering bitches when they lose an entire savings on one bet, and their wives are taking the kids and moving out.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

At least those folks are actually impacted. I saw a dude throw a remote into a tv because his team lost. Like damn, if you're gonna be so invested, maybe pick a better team than the Raiders.

by Busy_Fig_6393 1 month ago

Lol at the Raiders. I am not a sports guy at all but you could drive by the Colliseum and know the Raiders were playing just by the fights in the parking lot. + 880N gets notoriously jammed.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Or like that time I most certainly did NOT throw my phone into traffic one year when the Habs got schooled in playoffs 🤣

by Proper_Clock_1772 1 month ago

Heyyyy they still did a great job that year.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

😂 You sound like one of us. My condolences. 😅

by Proper_Clock_1772 1 month ago

You do know that was sarcasm right?

by Feilcelestine 1 month ago

Totally, but the same goes for people who are obsessed with sports to the point of toxicity. I'm not arguing, just agreeing that America's obsession with sports is insane.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

This is not just an American problem.

by kathrynaufderha 1 month ago

I'm not a Disney person myself but what is the difference between this and their example of sports? Let people have their hobbies if it isn't hurting anyone

by Anonymous 1 month ago

This! It's bizarre to me how people become hostile toward certain hobbies and interests. Like, okay, you're not into it; that doesn't mean everyone else has to dislike it, too, though.

by darrell54 1 month ago

Yup, you can just as easily argue sports are childish. Still watching sports? Basically a fairytale watching better men. Still playing? Maybe go build a family instead of playing games. It's not time wasted if we're at least enjoying ourselves

by Anonymous 1 month ago

There is no difference, which is why OP ignored the comparison. I'm not a Disney person but a lot of my friends are and we work through it because ewe love each other. /s

by kathrynaufderha 1 month ago

I think the key difference is that sports is a competitive endeavour, and you want your team to win. Liking a children's cartoon doesn't have that. Like whatever you want but a more appropriate comparison might have been superhero movies or something.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

It's a media company. People are supposed to like the stuff they put out. Some like it more than others. Also, why is it bad to have the same interests that you like as a child, especially when it's not something that's even remotely strange. Disney is a gigantic company. Who does this interest hurt??? 😭

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Imaging thinking cheering men on giving each other cte is normal. The real child is someone crying about another adult doing the thing that makes them happy.

by daughertygaston 1 month ago

Humans have been cheering for sport for thousands of years. Don't try to act like it's abnormal

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Enjoying sports is normal, but a grown adult becoming violent and throwing a tantrum over a team losing or an ad that made it seem like the channel was changed is not normal

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Not sure where anyone was arguing that

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Most of those thousands of years they were also completely okay with blood sport. Full fights to the death. Probably wouldn't lean on them for morals.

by daughertygaston 1 month ago

Who's talking about morals? I'm saying that, on the whole, humans have always loved physical competition and always will. The fact that the severity of the violence changes over time doesn't discount that

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Humans have also loved stories, plays, and poems.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Your refute to comparing sports and Disney enjoyed is that people have been enjoying sports for most of humanity. My point is that the same can be considered true of stories, plays, and poems, of which Disney is analogous.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Not like people play sports since childhood or anything. Not like there isn't middle school sports.

by RemoteRelationship81 1 month ago

Yea well. You can enjoy sports and even make a hobby of it with friends and not let it ruin your life lmao.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

You can, and I've known SOME reasonable people who enjoy sports. I've also seen a grown ass man clear out a house party by losing control of emotions and things start to get broken because a team lost. Get over it and move on at that point.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Two things can be true at the same time.

by Tight_Training 1 month ago

As a lifelong nerd, I always found the popularity and acceptance of sports fandom to be extremely weird. You can obsessively follow Your Sports Team, watch all their games, have a favorite player, rattle off obscure trivia, and collect merchandise and you're a Proper Healthy Member of Society. If you're obsessed with video games or comic books or [general nerd interest], spend way too much money keeping up with it, and hyperfixate on them, you're weird.

by RipUpstairs23 1 month ago

Seinfeld once made a joke about obsessing over sports teams and it's actually kinda true. You're not rooting for the players, you're really rooting for the clothes

by Newton38 1 month ago

BOO!! DIFFERENT SHIRT! DIFFERENT SHIRT!!

by Able_Front_7245 1 month ago

The ones that are the most fanatical about sports seem to be pretty out of shape too.

by herzogdominique 1 month ago

This, but unironically.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Professional sports are marketed for everyone regardless of age, while Disney is marketed and designed for families with young kids. I don't think this comparison holds up. Obsessing over "hidden Mickeys" and going to Disneyland without kids is weird, but hey let people do what they like. It's not hurting anyone.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Right, I've never seen a Disney fan rage or become a complete emotional wreck like a sports fan. Or burn a bus or destroy public property like a sports fan does. If we're gunna talk about weird, let's talk about the obsessive nature lack of emotional regulation from sports fans, jeezus.

by Alternative-Try-4754 1 month ago

To be fair, bad actors will take advantage of championships celebrations to be chaos demons.

by DistributionLate9311 1 month ago

Okay, but lots of sports fans still get super emotional and weird over wins and loses. OP is talking about yearly trips to Disneyland when some people get season tickets every year. I used to go to baseball games as a kid with my dad, they were fun as hell but we never got depressed or angry over these games.

by Alternative-Try-4754 1 month ago

Many an adult Disney fan becomes a complete emotional wreck

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I guess sports fans and Disney fans have a lot in common then

by Alternative-Try-4754 1 month ago

My feelings for this are the same with most "obsessions". As long as you can understand why and respect that other people aren't interested, be as obsessed as you want with whatever you want

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Hellllllooooo TLC network 👋

by Dramatic-Weight 1 month ago

People who are obsessed with others hobbies/interests are weirder IMO.

by SmileAggressive5363 1 month ago

This answer right here!

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Escapism is one thing, but clinging to a kid's fantasy world as an adult? There's a big difference between needing a break and making cartoon castles your main destination. At some point, maybe it's just time to grow up.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

What's the difference between going to Disney World/Land vs any other theme park? I mean Disney parks literally have things catered towards adults only as well

by Anonymous 1 month ago

None. All theme parks are a waste of time and money.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I don't get the obsession with video games. Or Nascar, or WWE. But to each their own, right? I don't enjoy those things. I enjoy going to Disneyworld with my wife every year. It's an experience. We aren't reliving our childhood. We're enjoying the atmosphere of like-minded people. It's clean and safe and we always find things that we've never done previously. I had a coworker years ago who was like "Omg, for the price of your vacation you could have bought a 4-wheeler!" He's not wrong. But I don't want a 4-wheeler. Disneyworld would absolutely be a waste of time and money for him.

by Maximum_Prompt 1 month ago

Got any better places to escape to?

by Gennaro07 1 month ago

False premise. No such place exists.

by Cautious_Boat 1 month ago

You'd appreciate it way more if you could see it in 3D

by Anonymous 1 month ago

You don't think going to Disney World counts as an escape? Have you even been there?

by Cautious_Boat 1 month ago

No different than me, a metalhead. Just a different form of entertainment. I dont see the issue.

by Marlinnitzsche 1 month ago

Obsession at all is strange

by Anonymous 1 month ago

not really

by Marlinnitzsche 1 month ago

Yep

by Anonymous 1 month ago

You really got him there?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Me when someone actively does something for more than 30 seconds each day

by Anonymous 1 month ago

A lot of us never got to enjoy the merch and the disneyland trips in our childhood. Now when I can afford it, I don't think anyone should have a problem regarding what I like to do. How is it different from sports fans.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Ah, so now that you can afford it, you're choosing to obsess over something meant for kids? Sure, nothing odd about a grown adult living in a world of cartoons and fairy tales.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Disney isn't purely for kids, you know.

by Gennaro07 1 month ago

Who hurt you, OP? 😭

by darrell54 1 month ago

His parents if I had to take a guess

by LackNegative7537 1 month ago

Disney is for everyone. Stories are for everyone. They transcend age. If you don't like it that's totally fine but there is a lot to enjoy as an adult about Disney. It literally harms no one and so what if it is childish? I don't really agree that it is but what does it matter to you? I think lots of "adult" interests are stupid or immature but if they don't harm anyone, it's really none of my business

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I hope some day you find a way to be happy.

by Cautious_Boat 1 month ago

People can like whatever they want, I also find disney to be an odd interest but it doesn't affect me at all. I've gone through many hyperfixations in my life and if someone were to call me weird and obsessive for them I don't think I'd like that very much.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I'm specifically talking about obsessions

by Anonymous 1 month ago

That has nothing to with being childish. Do you feel the same about sports fans, "vikings", metalheads etc? Or are you just specifically uncomfortable with you "childish" side? To grow up is to realise that you don't have to be afraid of having childish interests

by Anonymous 1 month ago

This 100%! I used to live in Gainesville, people with minimum wage jobs still somehow holding yearly Disney passes and going every weekend was just insane to me. Super weird people.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I don't get it, I'm an adult and like all amusement parks but no specific love for Disney. That being said what's wrong with people doing what they love as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. Live and let live, no need to judge people just cause we don't get them

by Anonymous 1 month ago

It's not about hurt, it's about grown-ups obsessing over kid stuff.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Mm okay. Video games included?

by Hudsonemmanuell 1 month ago

this argument is always so bad. rated M games are not for children.

by FrontPear 1 month ago

But Nintendo is, right?

by RevolutionaryWord368 1 month ago

Do you think all video games are rated M?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Okay, fair enough. But why ""adult"" would waste time on video games? I know already, but it may help OP to understand many things… :)

by Hudsonemmanuell 1 month ago

I think there's a really solid line between dressing up and going to Disneyland versus playing a video game

by Anonymous 1 month ago

They call evrything ‘gatekeeping' these days🙄 its so dumb

by Sawayntyra 1 month ago

"cringe" is an excuse to prevent people from having fun.. loser mentality

by Spare-Republic-5186 1 month ago

Cringe is an opinion. No one is "preventing" these people from having fun. People are allowed to have opinions based on their observations 😃 Loser mentality is being offended when people don't like weird behavior

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Ah yes, because clearly, everyone who doesn't swoon over Disney is 'gatekeeping joy.' How dare we have an opinion, right? Kudos to @624Seeds for actually understanding the concept here.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Nobody said anything about expecting you to swoon over Disney. Not personally being into Disney isn't gatekeeping, but telling adults they should grow up and get other hobbies is 100% gatekeeping.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

found the disney adult

by FrontPear 1 month ago

I have a relative like this. Not only does he go to Disneyland like every month, he cannot shut up about it.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I do worry for him

by Anonymous 1 month ago

And the point goes completely over your head

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Why don't you go with him?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I'm an adult. Then again so it's he

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I agree but feel this way about any group of people who make their interests a huge part of their personality and what they want to talk about

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Anyone obsessed with anything is strange. At least some of us have interests.

by Spare-Republic-5186 1 month ago

Maybe it's time to grow up... Man, I'm not even into Disney, but wow! Adults made those cartoons, and they have universal appeal. They're literally "family movies" because everyone in the family can enjoy them. Regardless, age gating hobbies and interests is obnoxious and is usually done by immature, insecure people.

by darrell54 1 month ago

unpopular indeed ( i agree btw )

by Anonymous 1 month ago

If they enjoy it, why not let them? They are not harming any body. If they work, pay their bills, and can take care of themselves, just let them enjoy it.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I'm all for living and letting live, but in my experience Disney obsession is a truly dependable red flag. Not an unpopular opinion though.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Hard agree. While I am all here for joy and hobbies, the idea of spending so much money to visit an overcrowded theme park, where I would have to wait in long lines surrounded by screaming children while eating overpriced junk food, is foreign to me. There are many better ways to spend your adult money, such as traveling to foreign countries and experiencing different cultures.

by Plastic_Elevator1149 1 month ago

I could say the same thing about sports… I think it's weird to go and eat in a parking lot behind your car before a game and constantly wear merch from teams… 🤷🏻‍♀️

by OkBoot 1 month ago

Agree, Disney adults are weird.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

lol this is a completley normal and popular opinion in the real world. only some internet wierdos pretend its not.

by MathematicianFun8321 1 month ago

Ok, I'm this Disney adult nerd OP is talking about. Look, I love the thrill rides, merch such as star wars or marvel, the experience of the parks. I don't go every year because I'm getting priced out. My kids have great memories with me and my wife taking them. Wouldn't trade Disney for most other travel destinations.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Not unpopular. I've been told this a lot :D

by Hairy-Enthusiasm 1 month ago

Bffr this is not unpopular

by Sawayntyra 1 month ago

Anyone obsessed with anything.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

You can say the same thing about adults who are obsessed with watching people play with balls, drive a car, play pretend in front of a camera or any other hobby. If you don't like it then oh well let people like what the want to. What a sad life someone has to have to be so jealous that someone else found something to love.

by Creepy-Tap-2433 1 month ago

Or maybe it's time to grow up and not care what makes other people happy?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Maybe leave the kids stuff for kids?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

An adult liking something that is labeled for kids is not harming anyone. You talk about obsession, but you are awfully obsessed with what other people choose to do. You don't seem fun.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

My MIL goes like 15x a year

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Extremely popular opinion. "Disney adults" have become a huge meme over the past several years

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Tell that to grown woman having obsessions with Taylor swift too.

by Economy-Broccoli 1 month ago

I agree and Pokemon as well but heck I'm guilty of that and I'm single asf so I rather be weird

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I don't see it as any different as being into other types of media and collecting things related to it as a hobby. Sports, anime, TV shows, etc. Being an adult doesn't mean you can't have fun anymore I don't keep up with Disney much, but I can see why it's something people enjoy

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I think you're missing that most of these adults are parents sharing family friendly experiences with their kids. I would agree that if you are a childless adult that's into Disney you are strange, but it's ok to be strange and I'm happy they have a thing they love

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I'm pretty sure this isn't an unpopular opinion

by bruce73 1 month ago

I don't care for overpriced Disney garbage but if someone else loves it, knock yourself out. It's not hurting me in any way. Have my updoot.

by Full-Reputation4569 1 month ago

This is not an unpopular opinion at all

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Shhh, my boss might be listening.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Worry about yourself. Plus I think grown adults who are obsessed with stanning for musicians and sports are much weirder and crazier, because I never see Disney fans bullying ppl or acting crazy when they lose bets.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Thank you!

by CompetitionBig6979 1 month ago

Disney adults = Nintendo adults

by Millermyrtie 1 month ago

You mean like following a sports team, dressing up and collecting merch, planning trips to see them play, etc.. SO childish, grow up. Little kids play sports.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I'm definitely a little strange but my stitch collection hurts nobody. I'll keep my intrests. I don't plan yearly trips but I went last year. I worked for them as soon as I was out of Highschool for a hot minute so it's a place I know. It was very exciting seeing all the changes and all the stuff I saw every day again Also drinking around the world at epcot is hella fun.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Man, life sucks. Let people enjoy things that make their life suck a little less. Who cares. Good for them.

by OneSomewhere 1 month ago

Nothing wrong with being strange.

by New_Lingonberry 1 month ago

I don't like sports people or Disney people Complete win here

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I've noticed a disproportionate amount feel comfortable enough to share their affinity for wearing adult diapers as well.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Disney adults are strange when they make a multi-billion dollar company into a personality trait. As a matter of fact, having any single thing be a massive part of your identity is weird

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Anyone obsessed with anything for an extended period of time is a bit strange. They are weirdos, and they are happy with that. We don't have to understand or agree with them. Just let them be happy with theirs and move on with your own life. At least some mofo are happy on this blue marble, right...

by Carmellaoreilly 1 month ago

Before I came out of the closet I dated a girl whose entire family was obsessed with disney, I think it made me gay

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I guess i might find it somewhat childish if they made their Disney obsession their entire personality. But on the other hand, it doesn't really matter. If it makes them happy, then go for it. Not sure if it may be a form of coping mechanism or self soothing to obsess over Disney

by Narrow-Signature 1 month ago

What's super strange is some random Internet stranger thinking they are better than someone else because they don't have a particular hobby. I'm sure we could dig thru your hobbies and dissect all of them too, and make fun of how childish and immature and stupid they are. But I didn't. Because I'm a normal human being who couldn't care any less about what other people do with their free time. Crazy concept, I know.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I agree, you aren't a kid anymore so act like it

by ephraimwaters 1 month ago

Please enlighten me what are the more "grown up" options? Ah yes, drinking literal poison that takes you out of thinking, and then comtinuing to do so until you black out or do questionable things? Very mature. Watching tv for 7 hrs straight about other adults playing make believe doctor or cop or detective, but they also bang each other which is very cool and mature so that makes it very adulty and cool.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

This is a very common opinion

by More-Call-9305 1 month ago

Normally i would say live and let live, but considering Walt Disney was friends with pedos and associates, and is most definitely a brainwashing psyop.....

by Anonymous 1 month ago

As a person who struggles to enjoy life to the fullest sometimes I'm just happy for people who are able to feel passionate about something

by Turbulent-Ad 1 month ago

Lol you think a yearly trip is excessive? Millions of people live within a 20 mile radius of Disneyland.

Whilst Disney is not as good as people remember fondly from childhood, I could say it's way more worthwhile than watching multi millionaires chase a ball around, or reality shows where people just scream at one another.
