Nobody disagrees with this, it's your second paragraph that explains it. people don't know where to draw the line sometimes

If people are complaining about your looking / have give you the impression this is unpopular, that seriously suggests to me that your version of looking is what everyone else refers to as staring.

by Reasonable_Tap3679 1 week ago

Sure, but don't stare. You can notice things with your eyes, but staring is really creepy. The fact you think this is unpopular is telling me that you definitely stare OP

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The thing about staring is that it's a bit of a culture thing, isn't it? I'm from Calfornia but moved to Spain about 24/25 years ago and just never left. On a recent trip back to the US I got called out by my sister for staring at people... what is rude in California is most definitely socially acceptable here. Prolonged staring can be creepy, but giving people a good, long look up and down? Totally fine.

If a lot of people love each other. The world would be a better place to live.

So anyway, how's your sex life?

"Looking at and admiring an attractive person is one of the most natural human behaviors out there." I know what you mean, and as a human I also love to look at beautiful things and people. BUT, we arent animals. We live in a civilization and we are VERY FAR from nature. We dont want to feel bad, so we all agreed that we shouldnt do certain things. Thats called moral. You might find it okay that a person looks at you for seconds. But a beautiful woman who has this every day, every hours a few times obviously doesnt. There is always a balance in things, you shouldnt exaggerate anything in life. And just because you dont, doesnt mean that she doesnt receive this in an exaggerated amount. Not to forget that you might feel safe, but a woman is on average always weaker than a man. So there is literally an imbalance in power, so she cant defend herself. As she can never know if a person would do more than just watching, and even then if she complains about it, the men will not react nicely but might react aggressive. So men limit her freedom and make her feel unsafe and bad.

The moment anyone's leering makes someone else feel uncomfortable is the moment it's gone to far, and it's the person being looked at that decides when that is. For some people, that is immediately, that's ok and should be respected.

There is not much benefit either.

How long is took long before it becomes creepy 😂

We can make an equation for that

When you make someone uncomfortable.

by lane17 1 week ago

Depends on how attractive you are yourself

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I'll go a step further and say everyone should have the right to stare, and even follow (don't break the law along the way, don't get in their personal space) ..that does not mean you are free from the social consequences of this. Plus the legal ones if you edged the definition of stalking/harassment too much. I agree with the social consequences, because yes, just look up someone better and stare in the privacy of your home. (But honestly, just find a better hobby.

by Jacobsmaya 1 week ago

You definitely sound like you stare. Im not innocent of taking some glances tho

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yeah you can look but staring too much is just creepy imo

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It's actual lunacy haha. But yes on what you said, I know for a fact this pretty girl who lives on my floor doesn't mind that I look at her passing in the hall. She always smiles and says hi to me now so thats the clue that it's not creeping them out.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I don't want to be a creep. If someone random stared at me too long, I would feel very uncomfortable too.

by Due_Scale5066 1 week ago

Fully agree. When people complaining about someone taking glances or embellishing those glances as anything more than they are, it's a telltale sign that person should be avoided. I hate it when someone says people can dress however they want as if stealing a glance is somehow against that. Yes obviously, I fully agree people CAN dress however they want. No one can control your body and how you decorate it. So the same has to extend to which direction someone chooses to point their eyeballs. You can't expect everyone to avert their gaze while you alone are allowed autonomy.

by Clovis48 1 week ago

I mean sure nothing wrong with looking at people you find attractive, but what is wrong is staring at people you find attractive. Staring is just creepy. Looking at an attractive person for 1-2 seconds is fine.

Better wear sunglasses when you look

by Vegetable-Hold5540 1 week ago

It's essential to propagate the species.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I don't think anyone has complained about another human quickly glancing at someone, in the way you describe. That's not noticeable. When it becomes noticeable is when people leer and stare

by Formal-Individual 1 week ago

Yeah, no. If you're receiving complaints it's because you are creepy.

by lubowitzconstan 1 week ago

No one thinks looking at someone is bad. They're always referring to gawking...

Stare vs. quick look

by Leopold18 1 week ago

Op stares at people at the "undress with my eyes " level and got caught. (A playful joke)

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Oh finally someone who isn't insane! I swear I'm so tired of seeing women slap their men for looking and men sulking when a woman looks. I don't even date but if someone looks nice I'm going to admire. If they hit on me I'd take off running.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Dude, it didn't even work for Mr. Darcy. Lizzy just got so convinced that he hated her that she couldn't even when he popped the question. 🤣

by Anonymous 1 week ago

There is a line between looking casually and looking creepily, just like there's a difference between choking and strangling... Actually the issue is that what you think is a casual glance might be actually an unwelcome hungry stare to the target...one is usually not a good judge of one's own appearance. Your own intention doesn't really matter.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

They aren't set pieces in your play. Someone you don't know staring at you is uncomfortable. If you're a female and it's a male it's even moreso.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

If you yourself are attractive you can stare as much as you want .... If you ugly you don't have the right to appreciate beauty you will always be creepy

by Anonymous 6 days ago

As long as no one touches me, sniffs my hair, or does anything else overtly creepy, they can stare all they want. I appreciate the compliment.

by Aromatic-Service2137 6 days ago

I wish longer stares were more acceptable socially because a) sometimes people wear clothes with slogans that make me curious, yet I'm not as fast reader as probably supposed to be, b) some outfits are pretty intricate and/or have obscure details, and I really struggle to grasp it all in one glance
