Ideal target consumer, continue consuming

by Anonymous 6 days ago

.... Are you alright? Who hurt you? What gang did Hulu pay off to do this to you?

by Anonymous 6 days ago

lol. Idk what's wrong with me.

by Darrendenesik 6 days ago

I usually watch stuff with my gf and she HATES when I constantly pause the show so I need those ad breaks haha.

by Darrendenesik 6 days ago

lol yeah that does sometimes happen. That's a bit annoying when it does

by Darrendenesik 6 days ago

Hulu's CEO wants us to love the ads.

by Anonymous 6 days ago

You're like my boomer parents. I always walk in on them watching a censored version of a movie with commercials and i'm like.... that's on the Vudu app I set up for you guys.

by Anonymous 6 days ago

If you want a break you have a pause button you know.

by Narrow-Argument 6 days ago

I agree, I miss having to mad dash to the bathroom/kitchen during a commercial. my bf fought me for a bit and then one days was like "I do like having a little break".

by Anonymous 6 days ago

Finally, an actually unpopular opinion!

by Anonymous 6 days ago

So you say your gf hates when you constantly pause stuff, if you're watching a regular show that's like 22 minutes, can you not pay attention for 22 minutes? Or like you're binging and on the 3rd episode you need a break to pee? If you're constantly pausing short shows that just seems super weird.

by Anonymous 6 days ago

Lowkey... I get where you're coming from. Since TV was invented we've always watched it with ads. The ad breaks became a fundamental part of the medium, impacting how stories are told. In drama and reality tv, they use it to drag out suspenseful moments, and then in sitcoms they used little self-contained jokes to lead into the break. That ad breaks were a part of tv whether we liked it or not, so it's weird to completely remove that part of the experience. It's kinda like how we're conditioned to watch things in 22-min, 44-min, or 2- hour chunks, but now with streaming you can make a show/movie with any run time. It's weird. Anyway I still don't like ads but removing them from the TV viewing experience was a real change. I totally get the desire to still have those breaks.

A truly unpopular opinion

by Anonymous 6 days ago

I started to watch suits because Ive seen enough clips to be interested my least favorite part of streaming it is the ads so I whole heartedly disagree

by Gsanford 6 days ago

LOL, you can have as many or as few "mandatory" breaks as you want. With your finger, simply tap the pause button on your remote.

by Anonymous 6 days ago

It is possible to pause when the screen fades or between episodes bud

by maceyconn 6 days ago

I use em as a piss break and a time to stick the kettle on

by Danielladoyle 6 days ago

…. you can press pause? streaming with ads is cable TV on demand lol

by Smithampat 6 days ago

Yeah I can but my gf hates when I pause the show repeatedly. Having ads is my little workaround.

by Darrendenesik 6 days ago

pause after every episode? lol this is so weird. your take is essentially "during my personal time, I like letting big corporations give me a mandatory break rather than picking my own time to take a break"

by Smithampat 6 days ago

I actually agree. Sometimes older shows, especially ones like 24 that really utilized cliffhangers for commercials breaks, feel somewhat odd when you can obviously tell where there's supposed to be a commercial break. I think a short break from the action to distract you from the story with commercials helps with the intensity of the scene/situation when you get back into it. It feels a little weird when it's a huge cliffhanger and the screen goes black and then immediately comes back to the same guy holding a gun to the same person's head. Commercial breaks also give you a chance to take a whizz or grab a snack/drink.

by Anonymous 6 days ago

The pause function exists on most streaming platforms

by Useful_Scientist 6 days ago

I need someone to tell me when it's snack time, dammit!!

by Anonymous 6 days ago

Exactly! You get it. Yeah I rewatched lost on Netflix and it does exactly what you mentioned with the obvious breaks but no ad.

by Darrendenesik 6 days ago

Good unpopular opinion! I actually think this has some merit too it. This is a good couple minutes to grab a drink or a snack or go to the loo or something. It does break up the time well. Personally, I've never hated ads because it normally meant id talk to my family for a couple minutes while we wait so it doesn't feel so heavy

by braeden07 6 days ago

Exactly!

Your dna is 100% capitalism

by Anonymous 6 days ago

Great unpopular opinion!

by Danykamcclure 6 days ago

Who's basketball are you tied up in lol

by Anonymous 6 days ago

Plus the ads would give you ideas on what you would want to watch next.

by Anonymous 6 days ago

The kind of guy who loves pop ups

by Anonymous 6 days ago

Truly unpopular I bet, ads on a paid service go into the infuriating territory for me. We were originally paying for the service to avoid ads from TV and Cable. Cable was also the original pay for the service to avoid ads from TV. Glad it works for you though.
