Video game developers should go back to older engines and graphics, amirite?

This makes no sense at all.

If those older engines have bugs, there are no existing support who can help you to fix them. It is a big risk for developers.

Or crank down realistic aspects with actual engines. Engines not only become more powerful but mostly they become way more optimized. There's no good reaons to go back.

The solution is to play and buy games you enjoy. Forcing technological regression does not change developer and publisher mindsets. What they react to most is if people are buying the game.

Sweetheart that's your computer. It can't handle good games. Games have been utilizing fantastic graphics for a while. You should look up how the hardware in your pc works. You might be shocked to learn your 960 can't run games on max settings anymore

An actual unhinged take. Good work OP. Old engines are abandoned for a reason. Needing an emulation layer to play the game probably isn't going to make it popular.

I'd argue that companies progressively make games better and it takes time to optimize the capabilities of an engine. I don't think games are so bad that devs aren't ready. Like most things in life, practice makes perfect but going backwards is harmful to any industry. However, there's lots of "older-style" games out there that give gamers nostalgia so there's no reason to go backwards to something that already exists.
