+31 The "Rock and Roll" attitude is annoying and outdated, amirite?

Wait.. so you're playing with people who like heavy music and you're upset they are running an OD? What?

by Wilhelm81 4 days ago

Also, what attitude are you talking about needs to go?

by Wilhelm81 4 days ago

This is entirely based on who you're playing with. You're jamming with a bunch of metal heads and scratching your head why they don't want to play the Beatles?

I agree the idea that a guitar needs distortion to be cool is a narrow view of music… so why not seek band mates out who don't think like that?

Uhh I think you're just playing with people who like different music than you. If you like cleaner music obviously you won't vibe with people who like heavier music

I love Gothenburg melodeath, but definitely not peak in the metal scene.

Sounds like you're with the wrong band. "Tough" does not always equal cool. But, unique, creative, and technical could also have its downsides of being disconnected from the audience. Maybe what they're trying to get at is that you should try to play songs with heavier sounds to connect in an easy way. For example, The Strokes have songs like "take it or leave it", "reptilia", and "50/50" which have distortion and get people excited. They also have songs like "Drag Queen" and "At The Door" which might turn the audience off but still has a lot beauty and uniqueness. Maybe it's worth trying to balance your sound more, or just find different band mates. Good luck!

If it makes you feel any better, I think the musician level of pretentiousness describes exactly what you're talking about. I don't think people are allowed to like what they like anymore, And I'm someone who likes led Zeppelin, Metallica and Radiohead. I think it all depends on the people you hang around with.
