+45 Expecting people under 25 to have their life all figured out, amirite?

I especially hate when it's the 22 year old SAHMs who already have 3 kids trying to shame me for not being married, having no kids and wanting to get a PhD at 27. Because how dare I find purpose in anything other than motherhood and being a wife…

No, but the expectation is you go somewhere. Again, don't have to have figured everything out but figure out a direction, next steps etc. I only just figured out an endgame in the last few years, or at least long term goals and I'm in my 30s. But I wouldn't be here had I not picked a discussion in my mid 20s.

Does anybody really shame people for this? Most people I know changed majors one or more times, maybe worked some out of undergrad, then changed jobs a couple years in, or decided to go back to school, or whatever. The percentage that were 100% on a planned track right out of high school - and didn't deviate - is really small. I don't think people just each others chops on this. I'm Gen X and we didn't really do it then, and Z seems more fluid than we were.

Iv had guys tell me you should be in your career by 25, sorry that's a pipe dream for most folks. Most people just have a job not a career.

Hell, I'm 60 and still haven't figured it out.

I'm 28 and my life is more of a mess now than when I was 25. Lol.

I don't think anyone actually expects people that age to have life figured out, more so that they are putting in real effort into some pursuit. I think we've all seen the person who's dropped out of 3 college programs because they have zero discipline, and just continue to work part time while living at home, and probably spend a ton of time gaming and partying.

I had major depression for my entire early 20s so there wasn't a chance of that happening for me lol. I think the whole "everyone is the main character and has to chase success at all costs" is a terrible mantra. I think everyone should live their life how they see fit. I'm happy in my boring mediocrity, I've never wanted more, more, more.

Braelon Allen is 20 and in the NFL. Sky Brown is 16 and just really liked skateboarding so she became a professional.
