I mean 75% of them in prison in the UK are there for sex crimes and 50% of them in the US and prison are there for sex crimes so just saying there's a problem

This incentivizes rapists to simply murder their victims. They're facing life regardless so why not kill the witness? As with most pushes for harsher consequences, ultimately the reason we don't use them is because they don't work out that well when put into practice. The death penalty feels really cathartic as an idea but then you realize it's more expensive than life in prison, doesn't act as a deterrent, and it kills innocent people
