A human calling a cat an invasive species is ... something.

by Anonymous 21 hours ago

If you care about cats, don't lecture people who have to deal with them through no fault of their own. Donate to whomever in your region offers spay/neuter services for feral cats. There are very little resources for that, many vets will not do it, it's expensive and in high demand. People feed strays because they're compassionate, but it creates a feedback loop as they breed faster than they die

This was pretty funny ๐Ÿ˜‚

by hillsjovany 21 hours ago

And yet here you are, arguing that "treating this situation aggressively" is only appropriate for one of those species.

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

OP never said that.

by Old-Length9980 20 hours ago

Yeah, but if he thinks all invasive species need to be killed, why not start with himself?

by mcdermottdestin 20 hours ago

I am absolutely here to waste time. One of the luxuries of being alive in our times: we have time to waste.

by Least_Reference 19 hours ago

I'm not talking about the general population doing anything, I'm talking about the people who pass policies and laws and are accountable for actually measuring the impact of invasive species. Also sorry if it's a repeat I've genuinely never seen this before.

Most of the outdoor cats in my area are owned by someone. We don't really have a feral cat problem as people claim them fairly fast.

by Anonymous 19 hours ago

I have three feral cats at mine. This is like the 4th litter, the only ones that survived. They can become pests pretty quickly if you start feeding them

by Sylviakling 18 hours ago

I will always feed any cat that needs it.

by Anonymous 18 hours ago

Yeah, it's almost impossible not to! I know nature is indifferent and I know they won't likely last too long, but I'm not gonna ignore three starving orphaned kittens! We haven't had a cat in decades, but my mom always has a bag of cat food for any strays that pop up

by Sylviakling 18 hours ago

I honestly think it's a difference of how people define them. In my area, we would just consider ourselves to own multiple cats if we feed them, whereas in another area people would consider them strays.

by Anonymous 17 hours ago

Yeah, strays might be a better term. I do feed them, these are the first ones that the owls, hawks, coyotes, raccoons didn't get in a while, but they got the mother ( I found her skull in the field ). But I think the female is already pregnant from one of her brothers. Probably have a mess on my hands soon or in the spring...

Waitโ€ฆ you feel bad for the cats, so you house and feed them, so that they live on to make dozens more baby cats who live equally as miserable lives trying not to starve or die of disease? You're doing that to make YOURSELF feel better, not for the cats, because you're actively contributing to the overall pain and suffering these cats are going through. As much as it sucks, the best thing you can do is leave them alone if you aren't going to bring them to a shelter.

by Foreign-Copy-8256 17 hours ago

I also take them to the vet if they need to, and no their not miserable. They are warm in winter because of the winter housing I set up. Their fed, and they are spoiled and happy. They also get a lot of love from us and they give it in return. I've taken 3 to the vet this year.

If two species are invasive and one is smart enough to curb the population to prevent further harm, why wouldn't we? Also, I never blamed cats.

by Foreign-Copy-8256 16 hours ago

So you are in favour of sterilising humans to control their population?

by Least_Reference 16 hours ago

We already do that. People get vasectomies and hysterectomies all the time.

by Foreign-Copy-8256 16 hours ago

Great to hear that you are in favour of compulsory sterilisation so the human population is reduced.

by Least_Reference 15 hours ago

Humans are responsible You got that right at least.

by Least_Reference 15 hours ago

human areresponsible for most invasive species (why exotic animals have restrictions nowadays).

by Anonymous 15 hours ago

... wild hogs are still a problem where I live. ๐Ÿ˜…

by Latter_Reindeer9046 14 hours ago

It is our responsibility as pet owners to keep them safe- this means AWAY from cars, roads, coyotes, birds of prey, antifreeze, garbage, and wildlife. Cats also see space vertically and not horizontally so what might feel cramped to us will feel fine for the cat if they have places to climb. Yeah, I agree. If you don't have the space, don't throw your cat outside. Thats lazy and you're basically giving up on them at that point.

lmao prison

by Anonymous 14 hours ago

Oh no, the neighbourhood I live in that humans levelled to build houses and pollute every day with cars, waste and chemicals has outdoor CATS in it as well!? Will no one think of the birds, rats, mice and moles!?

by haileehirthe 14 hours ago

Everyone knows that pollution is harmful to the environment and you see campaigns everywhere to attempt to curb that. And, yes, cats are bad too- the fact that you even put the two together, as though one means nothing and the other absolutely everything, tells me everything I need to know about how much you actually care about environmental impact.

by Foreign-Copy-8256 14 hours ago

Let's get rid of the humans before we get rid of the cats. I will forever praise my cats for killing vermin. Had a mole problem on the lawn, taught my cat how to hunt them, no more mole problem.

by haileehirthe 13 hours ago

And why, exactly, should we eliminate the one species on earth intelligent enough to take a step back, look at the numbers, and make these decisions to better the health of the planet and environment, over an overpopulated species that was OUR FAULT that's actively making things worse? Thats like saying we should go extinct because we invented plastic. This is an exact example of the cultural problem that I was talking about. The idea sucks to you because it's a CAT.
