Hell yes. A really nice, quality pair of socks. Love getting this.

Clothes are tricky to buy for others Socks are clothes! I don't like certain materials or seam placements. If I get socks I don't like, I don't wear them.

Give me socks and some slippers and it's been a great Christmas!

I actually ask for socks for christmas. Have received a lot of cool designs over the years. Plus I'd never spend 10 bucks on a single pair of socks for myself but someone else might for gifting reasons.

Trying to replace all of mine with Darn Toughs, which usually come in between $17-22 a pair. But since I started doing this, I haven't had a pair come close to being worn out. Including ski and hiking socks. And I'm about 5 years in.

I am very picky about sock material and length. People have bought me socks for Christmas, and I have never once worn them because I can tell from trying them on (I do try them!) that they won't be comfortable for me. I'm fussy. I don't like socks that are incredibly tight on my calf, but I also hate ankle socks. Don't buy me socks. I won't wear them. Too fussy.

The milk is potentially less of a good gift because of the relatively short window you have to use it but if they happened to be out at the time then it would be awesome. Salt or spices is even better because of their long shelf life. They might be a bit boring but the utility of practical gifts makes them great

At certain point in life, you don't want "fun" garbage. Consumables are great gift, if you know what the giftee likes

Definitely, my main gift request is consumable things like snacks or backpacking meals that I know I will eventually use.

I told my family I'm doing Swedish Death Cleaning. I've offered them so much of my own stuff that they know better than to give me mugs. We all have sensitive skin so thank goodness they stay away from the cheap lotion aisle. For me, some good Tarrazu beans or a Scharfenberger bar would be a treat, but I don't need anything.

Being boring is great? Being great is great. boring is boring.

To you, to most it needs to be more than practical. Again, if you're opinion was "I like socks as a gift" qthen yes. If it's " Something you'd have bought yourself anyway and will buy after anyway is barely even a gift. You didn't gain anything but saved a small amount of money, an amount that's going to barely be noticeable. You wouldn't even describe it as a treat. Again, regardless of what your feelings are, people in general don't think it's a great gift. So in general it's not a great gift. For you? sure.

This is so true. A good pair of socks is great gift.

I cannot stand having a bunch of different types of socks. I have better things to do with my time than dig through the laundry to find the matches for 20 different types of socks when I could just have 20 sets of identical socks and not have to worry about it. They're a great gift if they match all of my other socks. I always need more socks. Otherwise, I'm probably never going to wear them.
