-44 Henry Cavill's Superman was boring, amirite?

All the great acting in the world isnt going to improve a poorly written movie script.

Classic Snyder wasting any potential of a character

The biggest problem with Superman are his powers. Anything less powerful than Darkseid, can't be taken seriously as a threat.

Not Cavill's fault.

Hot take: I liked whedon's take on Cavill Superman. He was light hearted and had hope. I personally think that's what he should've been in all the movies he was featured in. Keep Snyder's dark tone, add in hopeful Superman, and I think you got a better universe than what we had. I did want to see the inevitable conclusion to the Snyder verse, but I really want my beacon of hope to be, ya know, hopeful.

Honestly superman itself is kind of dull and it requires very good writing to make it interesting. The movies so far ain't it. Not the fault of cavil though since no one has made superman interesting IMO.

He was, but I don't think anyone could play Superman and make it interesting

Superman IS a pretty dull character?

by heathcotesammy 2 days ago

No he is not, that's just a bad take by people who've never read a comic.

If I have to read a comic to watch a movie, then the movie failed. I know the movie is based on a comic, but I don't read comics. The media delivered to me, entitled "Superman" is boring. If the comic producer has an issue with that, then they have an issue with the way their story was adapted to film. It is not the comsumer's job to tell themselves the story.

Depends on the writing. I've seen instances of depth and personality, and then others like here where there wasn't really any attempt at that.

If you know that, then it's pretty disingenuous to blame Caville, OP.

The acting didn't really help. Like even during the emotional beats in MoS, he hardly reacted to any of it.

I'll double down. Superman is a boring character. The guy has no weaknesses, so they had to gin up Kryptonite as a way for the guy to be vulnerable. Meanwhile, one lucky shot or blow kills Batman.

See, even here it comes down to physicality. Which I get that it's a superhero movie so the fight scenes are important, but I'm talking more about him as a character with personality and emotional investment.

Henry is the coolest when he's in mission impossible

Snyder is a terrible director he hasn't made a good movie since 300 I'm not sure why anyone's surprised his DC trilogy sucked

Superman is boring anyway in my opinion regardless of which actor plays him.

They need to make Superman so broken hearted because of Lois lane slept with another man.

See, there are plenty of stoic and reserved characters in cinema that are also captivating. This one just felt like it missed that particular mark.

Not sure if this is unpopular, because for some reason lots of people dislike "Man of steel" movie. Personally, I really liked the origin story, his childhood. The antagonists were fine, too, for the most part. Just not entirely sure how Zod lost to someone raised on a farm. Lots of people criticize all the destruction, but what do you expect, realistically, from two such beings clashing? It's supposed to be cataclysmic.

Superman in general is boring.
