-25 Lobster Is Nasty And Only Tastes Edible Swimming In Butter... amirite?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

You can make the seasoning argument about any food since most foods are eaten seasoned. That being said you're still wrong. #teamlobster

How have you had it cooked? How large were the lobsters? What was the origin? There are a lot of factors in good lobster. Crappy lobster goes on a roll, good lobster can be cracked by hand and eaten without butter.

Here in NZ rock lobster is sweet and flavourful even without butter.

This is true for Caribbean lobster. Not true for north eastern Atlantic (Maine) lobster.

by Huge_Leadership 2 days ago

Pretty sure I've only ever had atlantic as I live in the North East

Ever try lobster stir fry?

Freshness has a lot to do with it, too. I live in Massachusetts, and if I get a lobster from a little seaside place or a trustworthy restaurant it's reliably delicious. But I don't order lobster at chain restaurants or cheap spots because it's usually not local/fresh, and then it's gross. And I live, like, an easy drive from the ocean.

Crab legs > lobster

by Anonymous 2 days ago

For sure

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Your lobsters are meh.

I went to Maine last summer and realized that lobster is just bland. I had the steamed lobster (dipping it in butter for any sort of flavor) and a lobsta roll (a $35 boring sandwich). I will say that lobster Mac & cheese and lobster bisque is yummy!

It's literally like eating underwater cockroaches, there was a reason lobsters were fed to/caught by the poor people back in the early history of America

by Severe-Solution 2 days ago

Lobster used to be the poor man's meal, and then somehow it became "special" (expensive). Lobster is edible, but it's nothing special

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It became expensive because of supply and demand. The supply is low and the demand is high because they are delicious.

by Forsaken_Lock2790 2 days ago

It became expensive because of marketing

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I wouldn't say it's nasty, but I don't understand the hype myself.

by Rich_Construction 2 days ago

Yeah it's fine, Like a perfectly cooked steak is so significantly better than lobster to me I'd never spend the money it costs for lobster but if I happen to have some lobster available to me I'm definitely eating it

by Loose_Appointment323 2 days ago

I sure would tell you my opinion on your opinion if I could ever afford to have real lobster.

by Independent-War-911 2 days ago

Grocery stores like Aldis and Lidl often sell lobster tails for like $15 for pack of 2...the price of fast food meal. I have seen Hmart sell live lobster for $8 a lb...cheaper than many steaks.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

1) I live in the UK, 2) I never have steak either. In my house the meat/fish we eat regularly is chicken breast, pork/beef mince and basa fillets, all of which are in the '£3 or less per meal' category.

by Independent-War-911 2 days ago

You're not missing much

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yes, he is. Chin up, McDonald's needs customers too.

Everything tastes good swimming in butter lol

Well imagine being boiled while alive all you LOBSTER LOVERS

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Sounds like a skill issue

Wrong.

I can't eat it even drowned in butter. I've only ever tried lobster once. I will try anything once, I'm not the sort to reject things out of hand. I'm the same with most seafood. I just don't like it. It's rare any amount of extra flavouring can drown the taste sufficiently to make it edible. Prawns & calamari I can just about manage. Regular british deep fried fish & chips I do really like. The rest, not so much. Everyone else - you can like what you like, too. I'm easy.

I worked at a seafood restaurant. Lobster and crab poop comes in direct contact with the meat. You're not convincing me meat that came in direct contact with poop is still good. Also, at the fancy places, you're likely losing meat as they have to cut some meat out to get rid of the color of the poop. No need to eat it after seeing it prepared.

As someone who has the opportunity to get it fresh throughout the year, it's just average food. It's not superior, but it should not be harvested as heavily for luxury markets. It's not luxury food at all imo. Marketeers and their myths.

Well you just run along and stay away from our delicious crustacean nation. More for us!

Funny thing lobster used to be for poor people and prisoners until trains started travelling across the US.

Lobster sashimi do be hittin different tho low key fr no cap

by Exotic-Pirate 1 day ago

This is the way I feel about eating all animals, for a variety of reasons.

by ritchiejuston 1 day ago

I'm on board, all creatures from the water are gross. Though I am proud I make my wife lobster tails every so often, she says they are amazing, but I wouldn't know because there's no way I would eat them.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Ah yes, the cockroaches of the ocean. Once considered peasant food because it has no flavor and was available in abundance on the coast. How we made it into a delicacy is beyond me. I do love it though, especially swimming in butter.

by Aggravating_Grand 1 day ago

Bisque d'homard !

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Definitely incorrect. Butter, salt, seasoning are just enhancers.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The texture is pleasant, the taste is pretty inoffensive especially as far as seafood goes, sure butter enhances it, but butter does that to everything.

by ApprehensiveLaw9309 1 day ago

I dont eat any of these wierd sea bugs, its pretty strange tbh

by Anonymous 1 day ago

All seafood is nasty.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'm truly sorry that you haven't had good seafood

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Speak for yourself. Smoked salmon is king. And prawn mayo is delish. That's before we even get onto fish and chips.

by Awkward-Advance 1 day ago

Fish and chips is a s tier meal

by Anonymous 1 day ago

What is prawn mayo? Because I'm just picturing mayonnaise made with pureed prawns, and that sounds disgusting.

by Rich_Construction 1 day ago

...are you serious? It's... Prawns in mayonnaise...

by Awkward-Advance 1 day ago

I'd eat some prawns every way Bubba wants to make them, but as Mayo, no.

by Rich_Construction 1 day ago

FFS IN mayo, not AS mayo. Either way, it doesn't sound like you've even tried it anyway.

by Awkward-Advance 1 day ago

Who else would I be speaking for?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

(Psst. It's a turn of phrase.)
