-52 Those celebrating Festivus are the exact people it was intended to castigate, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

has entered the mainstream It definitely hasn't. It's fascinating that you think it is, honestly.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

it had a large segment on the Today show today. CNN ran a big profile of it. Twitter is packed with festivus references. "definitely hasn't" isn't correct

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Wow if Twitter is making tv show references it must be mainstream, that's probably the worst argument ever.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

you're right - a website like twitter, in which people discuss current events of note and relevance en masse, is not a good barometer for mainstream pop culture.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

If they're only making references and not actually celebrating it's not

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Not sure if castigate was the word you were going for here.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

castigate - to reprimand severely - it's quite literally the exact description

I show that ended in 1998 is unlikely to enter mainstream anything. Your segment of the world may reference it more than others, but mainstream is a pretty tough thing to crack in 2024.

by SheepherderOdd3743 2 days ago

I don't think it's "entered mainstream" because I have absolutely no clue what that is, like none what so ever.

a 21 year old English kid does not mean mainstream

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Neither does Twitter, I've never met a single person who celebrates it or even knows what it is, so what exactly is your proof it's actually mainstream?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

You're a child in a different country that was never alive during the run of the show - of course you haven't heard of it. Go watch some cartoons lad.

You're a child Not a child in a different country that was never alive during the run of the show - of course you haven't heard of it. If it was "mainstream" I would have heard of it, i know what Seinfeld is doesn't change the fact making references and celebrating are 2 different things, so other then Twitter references how many people do you know who actually celebrate it?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

21 is a child that doesn't know he's a child.

Labeling it as a fictional event is odd as that can be said for so many holidays most people celebrate

by OutrageousSubject665 2 days ago

not really - how many holidays were created as the plot line in a television show? Most have some historic or religious connotation

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Religious holidays are also fictional lol they are just based on plot lines in oral stories rather than tv shows

by OutrageousSubject665 2 days ago

I suggest you read up on the historical basis of the majority of holidays

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Do you want me to list all the significant holidays rooted in historical events? And then you say "so what there's others that aren't!" and then you double down and learn nothing? Or you could just spend 5 mins on google and educate yourself. Your call.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Wtf is festivus

by Intelligent-Fan6906 2 days ago

Nearly all holidays are fictional. So why not celebrate this one too?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It is no more ridiculous than anything organized superstion in all its forms has cooked up. My advice? Mind your own GD business.

by LieAffectionate484 2 days ago

It's an excuse to be mean to people.
