-42 December 31st is the only day when you know the age of every single person born in a given year. amirite?

Am I crazy or does this just make no sense? You'd need to know their birthday and then this applies to any date right?

by Maevebartoletti 2 days ago

You don't need to know their birthday. On December 31st 2024, every person born in 2003 will be 21 years old.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Oh I guess from that perspective that makes sense. I was thinking specific age, like down to the day, minute, etc.

by Maevebartoletti 2 days ago

You're the type of person to say your kid is 39 months in age aren't you?

Ouch

It makes sense, it is just... Useless? Lol If someone was born in 2000 and we're in 2024, you don't know if they're 24 already or if their birthday is still going to happen, but if it is the 31st day of December then you know for sure their birthday happened this year and they're 24.

When it's December 31st, you don't need to know their birthday, just their birth year.

Think of it this way: on December 31st, 2023, everyone who was born in the year 2005 was 18 years old. Some would turn 19 the next day, some just turned 18 that morning, but just for that one day, everybody born in 2005 was the same age.

by Connandy 2 days ago

Nope You might know their years but age is years plus months plus days plus hours etc

by Spiritual-Term 2 days ago

By December 31st everyone would have had their birthday, so you don't need to know the exact day, just the year. Because everyone with the same birth year will be the same age on that day, unlike if it was in the middle of the year when only half of the birthdays would have happened.

i think specifying you mean # of years vs age. age can also refer to the exact amount of time you've been alive

by ChildhoodNo 2 days ago

Age can mean that, but that's not normally how we use it. Nobody lists their age as 29 years, 7 months, 2 weeks, 4 days, 9 hours, 44 minutes, and 12 seconds. Lol

by Connandy 2 days ago

No one counts their ages in anything other than whole years, except for toddlers and infants, and for the most part they can't count yet.

by Westerick 2 days ago

I think for most people this is the day of the year where they get it wrong for every single person

by Anonymous 2 days ago

You wouldnt know but i think you mean more; Everyone has had a birthday this calendar year now

You guys make no sense at all. This is easy to comprehend.

For example, Dec 31 is the only day where you know that everyone born in 1982 is 42. On any other day, you wouldn't be able to know a persons age for sure just by knowing what year they were born.

It makes sense and is a simple concept
