+50 Thinking positive thinking, is the only way out of depression, amirite?

Depression isn't that simple. For many, depression is a neurochemical condition that cannot be simply cured by changing the way you think. This is just wrong.

It is simply the truth about how our brains work. Hoping and thinking won't change that fact. I understand your idea but you are extremely wrong.

Wow, you found the cure! I can't imagine how simple the answer has been. Cured now, thanks 😊 28 years on medicines, and now I'm finally cured from my depression. All it took was a bit of positive thinking 🤔

:D I like how you can put it into humour even though you don't like my view. Keep going

A fundamental misunderstanding of what depression is. Depression isn't 'feeling sad' it's having a total lack of belief in the future. Disillusioned with dreams. Crushed economically. Socially isolated. Disconnected from reality, losing all your time to work. Sleeping endlessly then hating yourself for 'wasting' time, only to stay up late doing nothing. And in some cases a chemical imbalance. Depression can only be summed up as your brain chemistry going to war with your consciousness.

Well i do agree with you. You do have to change your perspective, and it will help you cope better. Sometimes though, doing all of that doesn't guarantee relief from depression. It does help tremendously growing as a person I'll admit. I still feel depressed as hell, everyday i happen to dislike more things. There's just not that many things i like, that could also be, because life is behind a paywall. You may be too optimistic, but I'm happy for you, because you're no longer depressed.

You're on a high right now. I wish the best for you, but you will crash back down at some point if you don't have something stronger in place.

Thank you very much. I am aware of that. And I try to be mindful about that. I know that I am on a high and I will try to not cling to it. I will use it as far as it gets me and once I feel bad again, I still try to be good to people, to hopefully get a good moment out of it. Because it's those good tiny moments that keep us going.

Wow... thanks. No, really, just thinking positively is not the magical solution. Saying this just makes you look insensitive and clueless.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

No it's not. But what is it that makes you depressed?

by aileenbins 2 days ago

Chemical imbalance in my brain.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

How do you know that?

by aileenbins 2 days ago

By being examined by dozens of medical professionals and trying many different medications.

Why do you believe them?

I think the only way out of depression is a notable improvement of circumstances. A person becomes depressed because something is deeply wrong. A change in attitude might temporarily help, but if the person is still in the same position, they will rebound back to feeling depressed because nothing tangible has changed.

Yes but people don't change circumstances, because they're depressed. Because of bad faith, they can't see how they harm themself in many ways and believe that's the only way. But honestly even the worst of circumstances can become more positive when you think about it in a positive way. And how do you want to leave a situation if you don't think hard enough about it?

Yes but people don't change circumstances, because they're depressed. Because of bad faith, they can't see how they harm themself in many ways and believe that's the only way That seems like a pretty big assumption. But honestly even the worst of circumstances can become more positive when you think about it in a positive way. Let's say someone's spouse and children die in a car crash. What's the positive way of thinking about that?

That he still survived. In my mind, every death of a loved one is a martyrdom. Because that's what shows us how much we can survive. He can be thankful for all the time he had with them and be greatful for the love that they could share with him once they were there. And that love can be carried further into the world. That's an incredibly hard thing to do, but the only way is believing this. And the amazing thing is, after that, he could connect with every person that has it hard and try to teach them to see it that way, if they're ready. And this form of connection is soooo incredibly valuable.

But what you're doing is suppress the feelings. What you actually needed to do, is thinking about what makes you afraid and try to turn it around. I couldn't imagine how hard it can be and I hope you can get past it. But not thinking about the hard stuff isn't the trick.

There's no point in dwelling on the past if it can't be changed. Thinking about bad moments just leads to wishing you can fix the past. No good comes from that i promise you.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

That's correct. It's just people fail to think positive for longer span.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It is not possible for many people. Not because they do not want to but because they cannot.
