+36 Ketchup on fries is fine, but mayo is the superior dip. amirite?

by Aggravating_Flan_894 10 hours ago

In the Netherlands this is standard, so it's not that unpopular

by Anonymous 10 hours ago

As a Belgian: your mayo is inferior.

by PassionSpiritual 9 hours ago

That's very true, even though it depends where you put it on. In some cases the tanginess is not better than regular mayo, but for fries: definately

by Anonymous 9 hours ago

In America we don't have standards on dipping because there are lots of choices, mayo being one of many

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

We do too, but mayo is kind of the standard

A Utahn at heart, making fry sauce and doesn't even know it.

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

Came here to say this lol add a splash of pickle juice to it too ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Try tatar sauce

by skyedibbert 8 hours ago

Must be from the Pacific NW. Discovered this when I moved to Washington in the 90s. Best fries dip that's commonly served. Garlic (habenaro) aoli is the king dip imho.

Tartar sauce is great, or a mix of ketchup and tartar sauce. We discovered that at "Arthur Treacher's" back in the 70s In Northeast Ohio, when I was in highschool (there was an Arthur Treacher's right across the street). The tartar sauce gives it a nice snappy flavor against the ~somewhat bland fries.

Depends what quality mayo, many buy the cheapest and hate all the mayo after never giving a try to a good one

by Anonymous 7 hours ago

I hate to break it to you, but you're adopted. I think you're Dutch

by Simple-Grab 7 hours ago

The mayo they use is so much better than what we can get in the US though. I've tried making something similar and it never quite does it.

by Significant_Pay_7091 7 hours ago

Hmm, could be Belgian too though ๐Ÿค”. We'll need to measure the softness of OP's g's to be sure.

I make a mix of ketchup (2 parts) mayo (1 part) and a glob of brown mustard If ketchup still tasted the same as it did 20, 30 years ago I'd just use ketchup.

by Anonymous 7 hours ago

My buddy makes his own "ketchup." It's pretty good. He doesn't like the texture or sweetness of the store bought version Tomato paste Soy sauce Garlic powder Paprika Little splash balsamic vinegar

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

I'll have to try that - sounds pretty good!

by Aggravating_Flan_894 6 hours ago

Frenches is better ketchup now

by Anonymous 6 hours ago

I didn't realize this was unpopular. I usually get mayo for fries and no one has ever given me crap about it

by Temporary-Exam-4357 6 hours ago

Mayo is proof that there is no God

by Hairy_You4855 4 hours ago

Down voting because I don't think this is an unpopular opinion. Perhaps in some geographies.

by Anonymous 4 hours ago

This opinion is very popular in Germany.

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

Yes

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

yes because when im holding my oil dripped potato stick i think "this needs to be further dripped in oil and egg"

by EveningFile8657 3 hours ago

The Dutch liked this.

by Inevitable-Key 3 hours ago

Garlic Aioli is the actual right answer here.

by VegetableOk 3 hours ago

Mayo alone, hell no. It has no flavor. A good aioli? I agree. It needs something other than then egg whites, oil and lemon juice.

by gene36 2 hours ago

Add a wee sprinkle of black pepper.

by Strange-Issue 2 hours ago

Yes! I've found my French Fry buddy.
