+39 There is an epidemic of people who start every sentence with "I mean, …" and it needs to be addressed, amirite?

by Easy-Jacket1045 5 months ago

I mean... You're probably right

by Lailalangosh 5 months ago

You know, he might have a point.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I guess....its true

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Thats like a pretty good point

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I mean…

by FriendDramatic2252 5 months ago

Are you sayingvit needs to be addressed because you don't like it, or is there some other reason you think it needs to be addressed? Do you think it's harmful rather than just annoying? If so, why?

by spencerjo 5 months ago

I mean, so what? There were plenty of other linguistical trends I hated ("on fleek", for example) that I disliked, but I also have better things to worry about.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

"on fleek" is just AAVE, not really comparable

by Easy-Jacket1045 5 months ago

I mean, come on, you know?

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Throw "it is what it is" in there and you basically just repeated every single convo my teenage guy friends had in high school in one sentence

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Why does it matter loool

by Middle_Peach_3198 5 months ago

I mean… it's really not that big a deal

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Nearly as bad as: 'So...'

by okongavin 5 months ago

Even worse when 'so' is preceded with 'OK,'.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I sometimes talk to myself when deciding how I'm going to do something and I'll frequently start with "K, so...Mmmm queso." I never really noticed until a family member told me.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I'm old so whenever I hear "Ok, so…" my brain immediately finishes the sentence with "HERE is the Earth. rOÜnd…" etc etc

by Anonymous 5 months ago

or it's just the nature of language. colloquial or not.

by Adamsdexter 5 months ago

I agree that it is the nature of language for buzzwords to come and go, but it doesn't make them any less obnoxious.

by Extension-Chain 5 months ago

I find ‘Well' to be kinda annoying. Sounds pretentious almost like ‘Um, Actually'

by Anonymous 5 months ago

And the ones who use lol for punctuation every sentence lol

by EstimatePossible 5 months ago

I'll join you on your pledge to eliminate it from my language.

by Tianna92 5 months ago

I'm glad to hear it. Best of luck

by Easy-Jacket1045 5 months ago

Yeah those are my two biggest "problems" (some don't think it matters, so it's ultimately just my personal opinion) as well. I think I've gotten pretty close to eradicating "I mean", but "like" is a bit more difficult. Baby steps.

by Easy-Jacket1045 5 months ago

Would you prefer we went back to "like"? "Like it's not that I don't like egg plant, like it's that it's not my favorite." Like…I mean…it's just a verbal filler. It's not that bad to me

by Anonymous 5 months ago

It's just the current way people use the language. It will pass. It's been worse. There are a lot worse trends currently aswell like how people think it's an acceptable way of communication to talk to complete strangers in a condescending tone unprovoked.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I mean is it any worse than someone constantly ending sentences with "you know what I'm sayin'?"

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I mean, it's a useful intro.
