How long can a back scratch realistically go on for before you look like you went to bed with a puma? Three minutes?

Yes exactly. But there still needs to be nails or some decently sharp object involved. Just rubbing with fingers doesn't count.

I think that some scientific back scratching studies ought to be carried out. I'm with OP - there is no feeling in the world quite as relaxing as a good back scratch.

Getting back scratches might genuinely be the closest i'll get to experiencing euphoria. My angel of a girlfriend will sit there and do it for 30+ minutes out of her own volition and it's literally heaven on earth.

I bet if you booked a massage and asked for a back scratch once you got there, they would do it for you. Same thing for the people saying a massage can hurt. You can provide that feedback in real time to the masseuse and they will adjust.
