I like the greenery indoors, something about plants indoors is calming

A couple years ago, I read a study where they gave people creative problem-solving tests to people in a room with empty walls versus a room with a bunch of leaves and plants on the walls. Apparently, human brains work significantly better in the presence of plant-like patterns. Even having wallpaper that has leaves on it helps apparently.

That's actually pretty cool.

They clean your air.

As much as I love houseplants, this claim is exaggerated relative to how much people hype it up.

get more plants, duh

by Visible-Gene 1 month ago

Unless you have a forest in your house, not really.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

They clean the air and smell amazing though.

Says you. Some plants are migraine triggers for me.

by Busy-Wave 1 month ago

Some are. I don't get those plants. A person can choose what plants they want to put in their house.

by Appropriate-Clock233 1 month ago

Not a chance. You'll take the plants you are given and like it dammit!

Humans originated outdoors too

by Classic_Reaction 1 month ago

Not this one.

by Busy-Wave 1 month ago

All humans did. That's how that works.

The race, sure.

By your logic any plant grown inside, so a good percentage would be immune to your criticism. So you should go back and adjust your statement to, all indoor plants that were not grown inside. Or admit that you're just another uninformed hypocrite.

Indoor plants produce oxygen. More beneficial than kids or pets.

by Cyrus98 1 month ago

More beneficial than kids or pets is a wildly sideways take.

Plants never piss on the carpet.

Plants are basically inanimate objects. Carpets can be cleaned.

Plants are basically inanimate objects. Rude Carpets can be cleaned. But they don't need to be if don't have pets or kids.

I mean, I'm not in danger of running out…

Aren't you, though?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Bwahaha! Nice.

by Busy-Wave 1 month ago

You might be depending on your ventilation.

Indoor plants are a hobby for me. I like the way they look and I like taking care of them. If your indoor plants have bugs, you have a problem.

The plants and the plant lights are insanely effective at combating seasonal depression in the winter. You also get the satisfaction of watching something tangible grow from your work. Literally "reaping what you sow." Haha. And of course there are people who just don't own land; plants don't care where they are just as long as the soil, water, and UV rays are good, so what difference does it make?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Fair. I've been chastised by friends who think I should have plants in my house. They can have them. I shouldn't have to.

by Busy-Wave 1 month ago

For sure man you do you. If you wanna compromise you can always get fake plants haha. I don't have plants now but when I did even fake, it really does liven the place up. We underestimate the positive effect plants have on us. (Of course certain plants should be avoided if you have pets, etc)

I live in a desert where things just die outside

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I live in the desert and my yard is full of plants. Maybe do some research and plant something....

I know you can still grow things, just not very easily. My mom always had a garden. I'm not much of a green thumb, but trying to be. But it's also hard to have a garden when you're in an apartment. I keep some indoor roses currently

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Fair. I do not. Deciduous forest and plenty of wildflowers.

Enjoy your concrete jungle

I'm not a big decorator in general, so that actually sounds good. My husband is the one who puts things on the walls.

Well, let your kids have some plants if they want to. There's so much joy and richness that comes from taking care of a living thing. You should get that as a parent.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

They take care of the dog. Does that count? The benefits of dog outweigh the inconvenience of having her inside.

by Busy-Wave 1 month ago

But they're pretty and make me happy.

by Narrow-Beginning-827 1 month ago

I agree. I've got over fifty, outside. One inside that grows out of my fishtank..

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I only like fake plants inside.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

These are worse for me. They get dusty and are a pain to clean.

by Busy-Wave 1 month ago

They can be a pain to clean, that's fair
