You need to cultivate the mental space to realise that the name on the map and the coat of your whatever are connected, even if the actual name change doesn't matter. You think that after 40 years of politicians abusing your wallet, you get one whose first act is one absurd national masturbation and they're going to be better? Get real! What you need to understand is that it isn't about the name of the gulf, it's about grooming the press/public. They make a seemingly minor demand and force you to capitulate. Then they make another minor demand, and you capitulate on that. And again and again, only soon the demands aren't so minor. But you've capitulated on so much else and avoided so much backlash from them, that it becomes harder and harder to stand up to them when it really matters. In this case, they are training you with "mental imperialism" before moving forward with true imperialism. Stealing names will eventually lead to stealing land, and renaming the Gulf is to get the public comfortable with that idea. They are running us towards authoritarianism, and they are training us like Pavlov's dogs to not fight back. So worry about your bills, but understand the larger game at play. Capitulating on something as innocuous as the Gulf of America will inexorably lead to worse things. Because everything Trump/Musk are doing is a part of a bigger plan, even small "distractions" like renaming the Gulf.
