The hunting is an exciting activity - it's exhilarating, high stakes, violence, etc. But that doesn't make the animals doing it aesthetically beautiful. Although I'll give you killer whales - they are probably the least ugly of the whales, what with their dramatic colouring.

By this logic, basically most fishes and sea mammals are unattractive and boring lumps of flesh. Comparatively, whales have nothing special for them going on, I see that but then can you tell me what does a Bluefin Tuna has that makes it so incredibly interesting compared to the whale.

I wouldn't call them visually boring but I agree they are not beautiful say, the way a leopard is. I will assume you refer to things like blue or humpback whales. Orcas are stunning.

Also, no two whales have the same skin markings at birth. They actually use it to tell each other apart. They remember their friends and kins after decades by those markings.

I find a lot of beauty in the story. The scars are remnants of a tough time they overcame. The hitchhikers and barnacles tell tales of where the whale has been. I like that kind of stuff and consider it beautiful.

But the story is one you're making up. You don't know what's happened to that whale, so you've crafted a narrative about overcoming odds and...going to cool places and acquiring barnacles. That's not beauty, that's your imagination.

I mean, northern right whales are critically endangered. You're probably a valid human being but I'd say a northern right whale would be magnitudes more valuable than a dime-a-dozen human like yourself. I went southern right whale watching in Argentina recently. They are not even endangered but seeing one up close still brought me to tears.

I've seen blue whales in the wild and it made me cry. They are awesome. But I still stand by my opinion that aesthetic beauty is not one of their attributes. And it's not "being mean to whales" to say that.

Thanks. And I genuinely think it - if someone designed a creature in a video game that had all the aesthetic attributes of say, a bowhead whale, no way would players gush about how beautiful it was. But because whales are smart, rare, massive social mammals, who have had fifty years of PR about how humans have nearly wiped them out, everyone needs to claim that they are also beautiful to look at.
