People like pets they think are 'easy' but most of them like fish, reptiles, rodents and rabbits are commonly the most difficult to really take care for and require more money. In reality they get these pets bc they don't care if their lack of research ends in the pet dying out of the blue.

That's true, I had fish when I was 5 and they died within a week. Tragic

Well, maybe for indoor fish. I have a fish pond in the garden with lots of oxygenating plants in it. I don't even have to feed them they are thriving. I suppose we did research when we built the pond about what plants to buy and how to keep the ecosystem healthy for fish. I have a dog and 3 cats. The dog is the hardest, followed by the cats. The fish are easy.

As a guy with a koi pond, I agree. Making sure the algae doesn't take over, keeping the pH balanced, and protecting them from the elements is hard work. It's worth it though, they are cute and the come to me when they see me 🤣

It's true, and bad conditions are so normalized. No fish should be in a bowl.

I'm still depressed over my dead arowana (and dead Oscar, and dead janitor fish).

That's really sad, I love all those fish but if only I had a bigger budget

people think fish are low maintenance, but a proper setup takes way more effort than they expect.
