+33 I hate that sneakers are the "default shoes" for most people. amirite?

"I would even argue the world would be a better place, crime rates would drop significantly, and global conflicts would be eradicated entirely. Butterfly effect, all that." What?

I'm not even joking. The way you dress, to some extent, conditions how you behave. Being the smart and efficient man I am, I asked AI to provide some sources to back up my claims: The "Enclothed Cognition" Effect Study by Hajo Adam & Adam Galinsky (2012), published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. Summary: The researchers found that wearing a doctor's coat improved focus and alertness, while the same coat described as a painter's coat had no such effect. Impact of Formal Clothing on Cognition Study by Michael L. Slepian et al. (2015), published in Social Psychological and Personality Science. Summary: Wearing formal attire promotes abstract thinking and strategic decision-making, skills often associated with leadership roles. Link Between Comfortable Clothing and Decreased Motivation Study by Northwestern University: Researchers observed that relaxed clothing (such as pajamas or sweatpants) could lead to lower energy levels and decreased motivation in some individuals.

Being the smart and efficient man I am, I also asked AI to find some sources which back the argument that casual clothes help society flourish more Enhanced Creativity and Productivity Research indicates that casual dress codes can foster a more relaxed and creative work environment. The University of Hertfordshire found that employees wearing casual clothing experienced higher levels of concentration and productivity compared to those in traditional business attire. TRUWEAR.COM Improved Employee Morale Allowing casual attire in the workplace has been linked to increased employee morale. When employees feel comfortable in their clothing, they tend to exhibit more positivity and productivity. BUSINESS MONDAYS Facilitated Physical Activity A casual dress code provides employees with greater flexibility to engage in physical activities during lunch breaks or after work, contributing to improved well-being.

While casual dress may increase relaxation, dressing up actively contributes to moral discipline, respect, focus, and productivity. The key question is: do we want to prioritize comfort, or do we want to cultivate discipline and strong values? Dressing up is not just about looks - it's a tool for self-improvement and societal respect. It helps instill values such as self-respect, discipline, and focus - qualities that translate into long-term success. The habit of dressing well reinforces the mindset of showing up as one's best self every day, leading to stronger ethics, professionalism, and personal growth.

Sneakers look like trash? That's like saying "shirts are ugly"

by harveykrystina 14 hours ago

Chelsea boots are nowhere near as comfortable as a well supported tennis shoe and I've always found them to be really ugly.

by Anonymous 14 hours ago

I'm good, enjoy those ugly boots lol

by Ortizdamon 14 hours ago

i hate chelsea boots. they're so boring and minimal and basic

by Zita42 14 hours ago

Feel free to pick any other kind of dress shoes, I mentioned chelsea boots here because they're the most comfortable type of dress shoes you can wear. But I'm perfectly happy if you choose to pick up something else that looks even better.

by Anonymous 14 hours ago

i hate dress shoes in general. none of them are comfortable to me. i only like platform boots

by Zita42 13 hours ago

Fine with me. I'll take platform boots over sneakers any day. 🤝

by Anonymous 13 hours ago

honestly chelsea boots and dress shoes don't go with the emo look i'm going for

by Zita42 13 hours ago

I'll also take a high effort emo look over the laziness of streetwear any day, even though it's not for me.

by Anonymous 13 hours ago

I feel the same with jeans

by Anonymous 13 hours ago

I agree actually, I don't own jeans. The fabric is extremely uncomfortable, and there are better looking trousers out there.

by Anonymous 12 hours ago

I know you're being facetious, but a lot of people's foot proportions don't work with a Chelsea foot. They would be hurting like hell, and that would make them grumpy and ruin your world peace.

by Anonymous 12 hours ago

This was just one example. There are dozens of shoe types out there that are dressier than sneakers, and that can be comfortable to those people you describe.

by Anonymous 12 hours ago

Honestly this goes beyond unpopular into the realm of plain dumb.

by Anonymous 12 hours ago

I don't like Chelsea boots get lace ups or traditional pull on

by Anonymous 11 hours ago

Haven't anyone anything but sneakers and flip flops for years, nothing but basketball shorts or jean shorts shorts or jeans as pants in years. Nothing but t-shirts or occasional flannels for shirts in years. And I guess I'm doing alright for myself

by Ok-Nebula6281 11 hours ago

All rules come with exceptions, and I'm sure there are genius level brain surgeons out there who go out with sneakers, MAGA hats, baggy trousers and oversize t-shirts. Still, the rule remains.

by Anonymous 11 hours ago

Im sticking with my flip flops

by whiteariane 11 hours ago

Old person here. Once your feet start hurting for no reason the realization that sneakers are all you can wear starts to set in when you realize that your most comfy (or favorite) pair of shoes is starting to betray you. You still have everything you used to wear. You may even reminisce about the fun times you had in them way back. That's why you keep them. But you no longer wear them. Those days are long gone. Now all you have left are those damn sneakers to wear all day.

by Cbrekke 11 hours ago

I had to look up what chelsea boots are and uh. Those would not survive a week of daily wear on me.

by Anonymous 11 hours ago

Flip flops and crocs are the real threat to society imo

by Anonymous 10 hours ago

This likely an unpopular, but very correct opinion. I hate the increasing casualness of American society, it looks sloppy and lazy. Once for a holiday family dinner I was trying to explain to my then 4 year old why he should wear a shirt with a collar on it and my husband started saying it wasn't necessary and I just said "I don't want him to turn into an adult who has to ask if he needs to wear pants to a formal event". Learning to dress appropriately is important, and it's a skill we're losing.

by damorepaula 10 hours ago

maybe it's a good thing we're losing this skill. why do you have to dress up to eat in the first place?
