Starbucks "Coffee" is Just Burnt Bean Water, amirite?
by dubuquecleora4 months ago
It's definitely one or the greater enigmas of U.S. culture

What this reads to me as is Unpopular Opinion: I like to feel superior to everyone else and I'm definitely going to make sure everyone knows how much better I am It's coffee, it's not that deep man

You're allowed to have a strong opinion about little things

It's actually kind of deep considering go to any other country and chances are theirs taste better because they care about the art of coffee. Same for tea. Americas lack of car in this regard expands past coffee and is another facet as to why consumerism has trained you to like the lowest quality of things but pay the most for them.

whats unpopular about that opinion? thats a well known fact. starbucks is actually great would be an unpopular oppinion... (and not true)

My even more unpopular opinion: Coffee smells great, but none of it tastes good. It's a caffeine delivery system.

IMO coffee is low-key better as a "dip" for cookies. I like dipping cookies into coffee

You really think people go to Starbucks cause they're brainwashed?? They don't have good coffee. They make sweet drinks for peoe who want a hint of coffee with their caffeine.

Isn't all coffee just hot bean water uncle?

I don't know, maybe what you say is true, but perhaps we like the burnt ass taste. If I were gatekeeping, I'd seek fine French pastry over a Little Debbie snack every time, but that isn't gonna happen. Even Gordon Ramsey enjoys In N Out burgers, Anthony Bourdain loved Waffle Houseā¦.

It's strange, the first time I tasted it, it seemed like burnt undrinkable swill. But after a while you get used to it. I generally did iced coffee at star bucks the last time I lived somewhere with one close by. I generally just use the local place next door now or make it at home.

"Uncle Iroh, that's what all coffee is."

their "baristas" wouldn't know a proper latte if it slapped them in the face with a perfectly microfoamed mustache They're trained to make Starbucks' products, not trained to be coffee experts. The goal is that Daddy Starbucks decides a product and process and the process is sent down the tube. I actually think Starbucks consistency is very impressive.

Starbucks is only popular because of culture and marketing. You don't get Starbucks because it's coffee, you get it to show you're one of the cool kids. Their coffee is basically like the old joke "would you like some coffee with your sugar?" People usually get stuff from there that's so dressed up that it barely identifies as coffee anymore.

I only drink black coffee and travel a lot so even tho I want to hate Starbucks prices and attitude they are always fresh while most other places are stale and undrinkable

Starbucks near my place has a hard time remembering to make my drink, I've had to ask them what happened the last 3 times I went... so I'm drinking at tims and mcdonalds again. Can't miss my order if I go through drive through, ill just wait at the window if you do

All coffee is burnt bean water, the baristas are people just trying to make a paycheck, enjoy your coffee how ever you want to enjoy your coffee and who cares how others have their coffee?
