+34 Morally righteous super heros suck, amirite?

by powlowskiamanda 3 weeks ago

They suck but they become the guardrails of justice. Else the become a vigilante that makes the law murky. And when justice is murky society becomes murky

by Schoenbenjamin 3 weeks ago

So bat man not killing the joker.. makes society murky?

by powlowskiamanda 3 weeks ago

I mean yes. He isn't the judge, jury, and or executioner. He should not be killing in the name of the law. What people fail to consider here is the role the city and the police have here. Batman fights and catches criminals. But the city should decide their punishment. I would argue the joker who has committed many crimes and deaths just deserves the death penalty. But that's not for Batman to decide. And it seems that the Gotham courts and the Gotham people are ok with not handing out harsher punishments

What about other instances in media when two powered beings fight, killing could/would be considered self defense in a sufficient number of examples would it not? It's like the heros are vindictive, putting in extra effort NOT to kill

by powlowskiamanda 3 weeks ago

Could you give an example? And could you clarify what you originally meant by morally righteous? So far you seem fixated on killing and not on other morally unambiguous scenarios. Even then, sometimes in said scenarios, not killing the villain turns out to be good as the villains turn to good after seeing the mercy they received

Joker was trying to free people from materialism

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Exactly. He's just a misunderstood good guy trying to do the right thing

by Jacey97 3 weeks ago

It would never be just the joker. Blame Arkham for not putting Joker to death.

Has there ever been a time when police became more violent that turned out well? Why would it be any different for super heroes?

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Perhaps this requires a bit more clarification. When a proportional response would be murder, yet they actively vindictively refuse to kill. Using your cop comparison, if a cop is being shot at, even being hit by bullets, and they still choose to only taser the bad guy or something else ridiculous

found the villain

If I was a villain would I want heros that don't kill?

by powlowskiamanda 3 weeks ago

well.its kind of annoying but at the end of the day, it depends on your morals.avenge people and become like them, or leave innocently?

Sam Raimi's Darkman was perfect.

I'll go a step further and say that all super heroes suck. I honestly don't understand how it's still such a popular genre unless you're a child.

by Lavada54 3 weeks ago

The morality of super heroes is the most interesting thing about them?

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

With great power comes great responsibility, said Uncle Ben, and before him Damocles and Voltaire. An educated guy Ben...

Yeah Walter White is the best example of an unrighteous super hero

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Wow a 2 for 1? Walter was clearly not a hero.

by Schoenbenjamin 3 weeks ago

He beat cancer

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

I don't see how that makes him a hero…
