-42 Wearing headphones in public doesn't make you unapproachable—it just filters out people not worth talking, amirite?

by LiteratureRare8901 3 weeks ago

it just means "not right now." Which is the same thing as being unapproachable.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

It just filters out people not worth talking to… by making you unapproachable.

LOL

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

But I wear mine because I do hate everyone.

by howelltyra 3 weeks ago

That's why I wear mine lol

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Bro what… that's what unapproachable means

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Yeah I didn't understand this title either

by Mission_Language_902 3 weeks ago

It mostly just filters out people who respect other peoples boundaries. The others don't care about the headphones.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Sounds like something an unapproachable person would say.

You've never worked retail lol god forbid you want to listen to some music while completing a task some Karen's think that may slow you down when they snap their fingers for you to attend to their demands

by SouthernSpot6414 3 weeks ago

I want them to make me unapproachable. I wish they did.

by eichmannrosina 3 weeks ago

Maybe I'm antisocial, but that's exactly what I came here to say

by Zealousideal-Set4160 3 weeks ago

I sometimes wear headphones that aren't connected to anything, just so I can avoid the puke-in-my-mouth that tends to occur daily thanks to certain people.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Which is everyone.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

"Not right now" in public doesn't typically mean "not right now"...

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

So you're weeding people out by wearing headphones? Would you like to be weeded out by strangers for no apparent reason too?

by merl95 3 weeks ago

In public ? Absolutely.

by AbrocomaAlarming 3 weeks ago

Interesting, so what if you need someone's attention and they weed you out?

by merl95 3 weeks ago

What random person's attention do you need?

by Schusterberry 3 weeks ago

Say someone is in the way and I need them to move.

by merl95 3 weeks ago

It's not your public space so go around? In the very edge cases where this is a valid scenario, tap them on the shoulder...

by Schusterberry 3 weeks ago

Yes, so I tap them on the shoulder only to find out I am weeded out. ...problem.

by merl95 3 weeks ago

I don't take it personally. People have places to go and things to do, as a stranger I understand if I'm not their priority.

by AbrocomaAlarming 3 weeks ago

Yeah, but if they weed you out, you may not be able to get to the place you wanted to go.

by merl95 3 weeks ago

That's never been an issue for me, but I avoid crowded places. I've tapped someone one the shoulder before if they dropped something or hand wave to get their attention and it does the trick. I won't go out of my way to get their attention if they ignore me and move on. It's nothing personal.

by AbrocomaAlarming 3 weeks ago

Yes, but most people aren't weeding you out, so of course you would not run into this. What I am saying is that if everyone were like you, there could very well be big problems. And perhaps you should consider this.

by merl95 3 weeks ago

I don't completely understand what you're getting at, I wonder if there's a cultural barrier that's happening ? I live in a city, if a stranger approaches me, I'm usually on guard and bracing myself for them to ask me for something. It's actually a good thing if strangers weed me out, so that I could get to where I'm going. It sounds cold when I say it like that, but I'll go out of my way to return a lost wallet at the police station before work. Just don't want to be pulled into an unpredictable situation with a stranger.

by AbrocomaAlarming 3 weeks ago

The core issue seems to be that there are people taking advantage of others in your culture, and you have found a way to get them to not take advantage of you. I feel that this should be your thesis rather than what you wrote.

by merl95 3 weeks ago

You're thinking about this situation in very odd ways. I don't envy that.

by AbrocomaAlarming 3 weeks ago

Why would I need a random stranger's attention???? Are they a cop or civil servant? If it's because an accident is about to happen, screaming works wonders.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Because space in a public area is limited.

by merl95 3 weeks ago

I haven't had this issue and I'm very active outdoors.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

I don't know your situation.

by merl95 3 weeks ago

It makes you a target for thefts. It makes it easier for them to steal your phone or whatever because you aren't paying attention to your surroundings.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

You still have them in or on your ears

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

And?

by Schusterberry 3 weeks ago

How?

by Schusterberry 3 weeks ago

👍

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Oh. Thanks for clarifying...

by Schusterberry 3 weeks ago

I'd like to see anyone try to steal from someone running lol

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

I wasn't talking about jogging while listening to music I'm talking about simple walking down the street or something

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Alright then lol 🏍
