The difference in salmonella risk from a well done and medium rare steak is negligible. Salmonella exposure in almost always on the outside of the steak (and not nearly as common in steak as other meats) so even just searing the outside is fine. So you can drop that excuse and eat your steak the correct way now

There's no risk of salmonella if the steak was cooked medium rare. So indeed, that's just in your head. Now, if you prefere to chomp on some dry ass grey meat flavored chewing gum, more power to you.
