The Empire Strikes Back, and The Return of The Jedi) hasn't "aged like wine" visually as people often describe them when talking about the effects. Very few, if any say this. Things they say are for the time they were stunning. I was a teenager when they came out and they blew anything away that we had seen up to that point. If I look at them now they look old because they are in fact around 45 years old.

The movies came out in 1977, 1980 and 1983 Of course they are going to have special effects that dates it to when they where made, complaining about specials effects in movies made 40+ years ago, that they are not as good as today is just silly. But the special effects in Star Wars are better than many movies from the same time period, but if you expect it to be as good as it can be today, you are a bit deluded.

Nobody is saying that the visual effects have aged like wine, what most people say is that they were very very good for the time which is true, if you watch any other film from 1980 you'll see how good they are in comparison
