+32 If you don't have and raise children, you should not be allowed to retire. amirite?

by Gloomy-Reaction-6216 1 day ago

Well. You certainly nailed the unpopular part.

by kaiaullrich 1 day ago

it's not fair to society to expect to be taken care of by younger generations in your old age What do you mean by "taken care of"? Are you referring to the retirement income that will come from the money I've invested over the decades? Are you referring to social security, which I've paid into over the decades at a rate unlikely to be exceeded by the amount I'll get back in return? Are you talking about the people I will be paying to physically take care of me? if you haven't contributed to that younger generation by having and raising children yourself Do you genuinely believe that no one without kids has contributed to younger generations? There are far more ways to benefit younger generations than making more of them.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Huh?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yes, you can have an unpopular and ridiculously stupid take at the same time.

by Marksmona 1 day ago

Retirement in the form of social security? The thing we pay into for our decades of working that get deducted from every paycheck?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You pay for current retirees. Future workers will pay for you

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Ok but since I put so much money in, I deserve that back to me in form of my own retirement

by Anonymous 1 day ago

So let's convert it to 401k

by Anonymous 1 day ago

And these social security recipients (and their relatives) are some of the loudest disparagers of student loan relief. It truly baffles me.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Don't think that's a good way of getting kids…

by Dangerous_Shirt_700 1 day ago

But it sure is a good way to prevent them finger guns

by shania97 1 day ago

I think you may just be a bad person. Get therapy.

by Powlowskiorvill 1 day ago

Someone's just jealous that people who don't spend all their money on kids can afford to retire.

by Stromansandy 1 day ago

Ok then retire with all the money you saved.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Boomer republican take

by Anonymous 1 day ago

OP should've picked himself by the bootstraps so they wouldn't have to worry about taking money from the pot.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This is 100% a moronic millennial take on things.

by Alverta74 1 day ago

Literally the opposite. Boomer take is for the generation to pay for their lazy ass.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

So you want to punish people who decide not to have children? What about those who cannot have children due to medical reasons, they get punished too right?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I saved up, I should be able to access that money I put away

by Dangerous_Shirt_700 1 day ago

Tom, did you start sucking on the exhaust pipe again?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

What isn't fair about it? Assuming the person has worked and paid taxes they have already contributed a fair amount to society and deserve to rest.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Who says anyone will be expected to care for me in my elderly years?

by Extra_Equivalent_313 1 day ago

Ok, and males with children should have one digit cut off for each child they make their wife bear, so they can also bear some of the pain and humiliation that comes with it.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

What makes you think that someone who is childless didn't "contribute" to younger generations? Who do you think was working those holiday shifts so people who did have kids could be home with them on those holidays? Are yo under the impression that being childless exempts one from paying taxes that fund school systems?

by Alverta74 1 day ago

I mean if that's the case then only parents should pay Social Security taxes then.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I have children, but I strongly disagree. Your point of view is a perfect example of how selfish each successive generation is getting. Society is not about "You take care of yours and I'll take care of mine." Society is about "We're all better off if we take care of each other." And I'm not explaining that any further. You either get it and agree, or you're too selfish to see reality.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Lmao do you realize how many extra hours we're forced or highly pressured to do bc you have to go pick up your kids or be a parent?? We're contributing, you just don't see it. Everyone deserves retirement.

by EducationalPin7796 1 day ago

They already pay money to educate your kids, and their taxes go to support the infrastructure your children benefit from. Despite the fact that you and your children burden the system for 18 years while they leech from the system , using the money people without children pay in taxes. You feel they should continue to support you and your children by working longer? Seems parents should work longer than non parents, since they pay for kids they never have. They should get to retire earlier. Your kids pay no taxes for 18 years and use all the stuff the non parents pay for, why do you and you ingrates get more?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This is just plain ignorant. That retirement money we get is OUR money that we pay to social security every paycheck. You have a misunderstanding of how retirement works.

by Key-Efficiency 1 day ago

You know people pay into their own retirement right? Nothing is free either that's why there's jobs that take care of people. This screams "I'm more important than you because I have kids" mentality that I see a some parents get

by Anonymous 1 day ago

That's not how social security works

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Anyone who pays taxes pays into it. If you have a 401k that pays your retirement too either way you're getting money. If it's unfair to op then all the tax breaks people get with kids is totally unfair to people with no kids which it really is but it's understandable and no one complains about that

by Anonymous 1 day ago

There is so much to say but I don't have the energy to say it…

by Similar-Charity1821 1 day ago

Might be one of the most unpopular things I've seen on here.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'm a geezer who has adult children, and I don't expect younger generations to "take care" of me. I plan to take care of myself until I can't, and then I'm going to pay good money for my care with my savings, investments, and the Social Security benefits for which I worked.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Who is going to enforce that? Elon?

by brookshanahan 1 day ago

Hush, don't go giving him ideas lol

by Dry_Mycologist 1 day ago

Like not even from the Army or Sports or Oil Rigs or Law Enforcement or Firefighting or Commercial Fishing or Farming or Construction

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Completely agree. In fact they should convert social security to 401k based on how much you you contributed.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Okay. Then the state should just return all the money the individual contributed to whichever state run retirement program, adjusted for inflation.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yeah imagine somebody dedicated their career to cancer research and finds a cure at 50. They can't retire cuz no kids 🤣

by hunterreilly 1 day ago

the world is already starting to reach overpopulation. we truly do not need to be incentivizing people to have kids. enough people are already having kids and so many children are in foster care. this is just a stupid take, not an unpopular one

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Straight to jail.

by Professional_Emu3120 1 day ago

My body chose for me to not have children, but sure.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This is the effect Trump and Musk are having on America and the world. I've never in my life heard such a stupid and insulting idea. And yet here it is, being confidently presented as if it's merely an unpopular opinion and not evidence of brain damage.
